Phase Two – Project Details 1.2.36 Salmons Brook Flood Alleviation Scheme The Environment Agency is developing a scheme to reduce the risk of flooding from the Salmons Brook and has identified an opportunity to work alongside local communities to improve the river’s social and environmental value. The scheme would reduce the risk of flooding to nearly 750 properties in the Lower Lee Valley, and offer opportunities for recreational and access improvements to Salmons Walk from Edmonton Town Centre to Montagu Rd and Montagu Recreational Ground. The scheme plans to use the Montagu Road Recreation Ground and the Enfield Golf Course, 5km upstream, as temporary flood storage areas, and to raise defences along Salmons Walk. These will act to keep water away from residential properties 40 during periods of heavy rain and high river levels. The scheme will be designed in a sustainable, environmentally friendly manor, while enhancing access and recreational opportunities. With the support of the local community, and contributions from third parties, further benefits can be offered through enhanced environmental or recreational outcomes, such as: Improving habitats for wildlife; additional landscaping to recreational areas; Interpretation and education. Phase Two – Project Details 1.3.24 Lordship Rec One of 3 district parks in Haringey and the largest open space serving the east of the borough, Lordship Recreation Ground’s current restoration works bring to fruition nine years of close partnership working between the Council, local residents, the Environment Agency and a number of other local organisations. The works to be implemented are: - The opening up of the Moselle Brook - A new ‘passivhaus’ accredited environmental centre incorporating a café and toilets. - Refurbishment of 2 existing buildings. - Extensive landscape works including drainage, pathways renewal, furniture and lighting. - Restoration of the historic ‘Model Traffic Area’ - Creation of a new BMX bike track - Creation of wild flower meadows and other works to promote a more diverse habitat. Funding for the works is being provided by the Heritage Lottery Fund (£3,859k) Haringey Council (£860k), the GLA (£400k) and the Environment Agency (£300k) that includes a contribution towards improving water quality in the Moselle Brook catchment area. In line with it’s funding agreement with HLF, the Council has agreed to maintain the Park for 10 years to Green Flag standard following completion of the works. As well as the physical improvement works, the project scope incorporates outcomes for training, volunteering, audience development and heritage and conservation.
