Making Light Work B unow create their own designs on their dcomputers. The CAD-Master pack d(CAD = Computer Aided Design) for ithe CI6 and Plus/4 machines is a light n pen based system and comes complete with menu driven software and special g adaptor. Setting up the system is very P straightforward. The adaptor plugs i into the joystick port and converts the cnon-standard circular <strong>Commodore</strong> aport into the more normal D-type ssocket. There are two versions of the sprogram - one for each machine so it is onecessary to make sure that you load in s the correct one - especially as the ePlus/4 will load both and there is a considerable difference in the number v of functions available. The reivew will e concentrate on the Plus/4 version r unless otherwise specified. y After loading, you are presented wwith a menu screen detailing the dif- hferent shapes, pen widths and colours eavailable to you. Selecting an option is rsimply a case of pointing the light pen e to the appropriate area of the screen. cYou can draw on screen in a variety of astyles. Thick and thin lines, solid or ndotted and three different thicknesses of italic. Drawing freehand is horribly slow and pernickety and takes considerable practice to master. Any joystick or trackball system could beat the light pen hands down. Shape drawing is considerably easier. Select the shape or pattern from the menu - you can select from boxes, banding, rays, lines, triangles and circles.
