St Joseph’s Day
at Oswaldkirk
Fr Edgar Miller, priest-in-charge at St
Aidan’s, Oswaldkirk, periodically holds
lunches for parishioners and others. St
Joseph’s Day was chosen for the latest
event. St Joseph is patron of the carpentry
workshop at the Abbey which Fr Edgar
established ten years ago. This has become
a favourite of many pupils of St Martin’s
Ampleforth who take woodwork as one of
their regular activities under Fr Edgar’s
tuition. The celebration began with
Solemn Mass at St Aidan’s where Fr Edgar
was assisted by Fr Peter James and Fr
Marek Zukowski (pictured above right). Fr
Marek, a diocesan priest from the Czech
Republic, has been a regular visitor to
Ampleforth in recent years. Guests then
moved across the road to Oswaldkirk
Village Hall where, after grace in Czech,
lunch was served. This had been cooked
by Neil Swailes, a chef at the Monastery.
