ST MARTIN’S AMPLEFORTH NEWS - CASTLE FACTOR
St Martin’s Ampleforth News
Castle Factor
This event is put on by the Gap Year
students for the children to surprise
us with their previously hidden
talents. Milly Cooper and Joe Cleary
ran auditions during the week to
separate the wheat from the chaff (or
the just about bearable from the truly
bad!) Once accepted onto 'the list'
the performers spent hours honing
their act, preparing their costumes
and practising their routines.
The venue was the Long Gallery, the
time was Sunday evening..... and 12
very nervous acts gathered in the
Matthews room (backstage). First the
judges were introduced: Louis Walsh
(Richard Wilson), Dannii Minogue
(Lorna Garety - with an Australian
accent that caused the MC much
hilarity), Cheryl Cole (Anna Wilson)
and the evil Simon Cowell (Nick
Higham).
In between each act the judges gave
their verdicts, often using surprisingly
familiar phrases. The people's vote
for winner was 'The Soldier
Monkeys.' Then the judges awards
were given. In joint third place were
Lizzie Dore's solo act and Alice
Brookes and Lexie Everetts duo. In
second place was Hamleys' gymnastic
act and in first place was 'The Billy
Jeans' - worthy winners.
