Ampleforth Lourdes
Pilgrimage 2011
The next Pilgrimage to Lourdes will take
place from Friday 15th to Friday 22nd July
2011. This annual event, conducted under
the patronage of the Abbot of Ampleforth,
takes a large number of sick and
handicapped people of all ages for a week’s
pilgrimage to Lourdes in the French
Pyrenees.
The Pilgrimage is always keen to hear of
people (disabled, frail or elderly) who
would welcome an opportunity to come
as a Hospital Pilgrim to Lourdes.
Ampleforth is one of the few remaining
working Pilgrimages in the UK with a
complement of doctors and nurses which
enable it to take sick people to Lourdes. Is
there anyone in your parish, village or
neighbourhood who would like to come?
Do you know anyone who is housebound
or who cares for someone at home 24
hours a day, seven days a week? The
Pilgrimage offers such people respite from
these daily tasks without separation from
each other - a holiday for both parties.
The Pilgrimage takes part in all the major
ceremonies at Lourdes and our day is
centred on the celebration of Holy Mass.
Combined with the spiritual and liturgical
messages of the week, healing in the true
sense of the word can take place.
Please look around and see if there is
someone in your area who would benefit.
We are happy to talk to anyone who is
interested and will try to meet their needs.
Similarly the Pilgrimage cannot function
without the help and dedication of its
nurses. As the result of successful
fundraising this year the Pilgrimage is in the
fortunate position to be able to offer nurses
full funding, as for them it is truly a busman's
holiday. You may know of nurses (or
healthcare assistants) who would welcome
an opportunity to come to Lourdes and
share in what is a very enriching and
fulfilling week. If you know of anyone who
expresses an interest please encourage
them to contact Janet or Annie on the
details below.
Thank you.
