Fr Chad Boulton, Fr James Callaghan, Fr
Philip Rozario, Br Cedd Mannion, Br
Anselm Sayer with seven members of the
Manquehue Movement and lay staff from
Ampleforth College accompanied final year
students of Ampleforth College on a highlyappreciated
one-day retreat on 10th
February. All gathered at Sneaton Castle,
home to the Order of the Holy Paraclete,
an Anglican order of nuns. They reflected
on themes drawn from Pope Benedict’s
‘Big Assembly’ address last September to
students of Catholic schools. The students
discussed how the Pope’s challenge to seek
holiness in daily life might be realised in
their fast-approaching next stage of life
beyond school. Group discussions were
followed by conversations in pairs while
walking along the seashore. The day ended
with Mass in honour of St Scholastica - St
Benedict’s sister - in the Chapel of Sneaton
Castle.
After half-term, on 24th February, it was
the turn of Remove Year students. Being
precisely halfway through their school
career, they were asked to write a letter to
their ‘older self’ to be opened in five years
time (assuming it has not been mislaid in
the meantime!)
