Four nights
Theatre fans are in for a fantastic treat
this Spring with the arrival of Goodnight
Mister Tom at the York Grand Opera
House between Feb. 26 and March 2.
Set in the dark build up to the Second
World War, Goodnight Mister Tom tells
the story of William Beech, who is
evacuated to the countryside. He forms
an unlikely but remarkable friendship
of ballet
Following a sensational season in
2012, The Russian State Ballet and
Orchestra of Siberia is returning to
Hull New Theatre on Wednesday
January 23 to perform, La Fille Mal
Gardée.
This magical ballet will be followed
by performances of Swan Lake,
Coppélia and The Nutcracker on
January 24, 25 and 26 respectively.
Recreated by Alexander Gorsky, La
Fille Mal Gardée is a gentle tale of
love thwarted, unrequited and found. It
is a masterpiece of comedy and is one
of the oldest ballets still being
performed today after its debut in
Bordeaux in 1789.
The ballet tells the tale of Lise and
Colas, a lovestruck pair whose
attempts at marriage are constantly
obstructed by the Widow Simone and
potential suitor Alain. This beguiling
and witty ballet is brought to life by the
magnificent costumes and virtuoso
performances of the Russian State
Ballet of Siberia.
On January 24, the company will
take to the stage with their
interpretation of the greatest romantic
ballet of all time Swan Lake, which
features Tchaikovskyʼs haunting and
unforgettable score; while the
following evening, the story of
Coppélia will be performed. A
charming comedy of errors, Coppélia
is set in the workshop of a doll maker
and features a potent mix of antics
and abracadabra.
The most famous fantasy ballet of
all time –The Nutcracker – forms the
final part of the series of four
performances on the 26 January and
tells the tale of Clara and her beloved Nutcracker Prince,
who fight off the Mouse King and his armies and return to
the Land of the Sweets to meet the Sugar Plum Fairy.
Formed in 1981, the Russian State Ballet of Siberia has
quickly established itself as one of Russiaʼs leading ballet
companies and has built an international reputation for
delivering performances of outstanding quality and unusual
with recluse Tom Oakley. Unfortunately,
William is then sent for by his mother,
and has to leave for London.
Oliver Ford Davies is once again
taking on the role of Mister Tom. As one
of the UKʼs best known actors with
numerous appearances in television,
theatre and film, he canʼt wait to take to
the stage again. With an extensive list
depth.
The Nutcracker are priced from £17.50-£33 and are
The story has been adapted by David
The Soldiers - Sergeant Major Gary
Chilton, Staff Sergeant Richie
Maddocks and Lance Corporal Ryan
Idzi, have touched a chord with the
nation and connected instantly,
receiving standing ovations around the
country.
They created musical history as the
first group of serving, British soldiers to
have two top five and top ten albums.
Their classic song ʻComing Homeʼ is
recognised as their anthem and is
dedicated to all who are serving now.
As the youngest of the soldiers, the
success of the group is still a shock to
Ryan Idzi. Despite making it to the boot
