Body found<br />
on banks of<br />
river Ouse<br />
A body was found on the bank of the River Ouse<br />
by a member of the public recently as they<br />
walked along the riverbank near Naburn.<br />
The unpleasant discovery was made at around<br />
11am on Sunday, <strong>January</strong> 13, by a member of the<br />
public while they were walking along the side of<br />
the river.<br />
Police said the relatives of several missing<br />
people had been informed of the discovery, as this<br />
is routine procedure.<br />
Speaking at the scene shortly after the discovery,<br />
Detective Inspector Ian Dyer, of North Yorkshire<br />
Police said: “A member of the public has found<br />
what we believe to be a body by the side of the<br />
river. We don’t know whether it’s male or female or<br />
if the person went into the river.<br />
"At this moment we are trying to recover the<br />
body but there is no reason to believe there has<br />
been anything suspicous.”<br />

of rainfall and flooding and the bank had therefore<br />
been left extremely muddy.<br />
The police investigation has yet to establish the<br />
gender of the dead person, despite a post-mortem<br />
examination taking place on Monday evening.<br />
Investigators from North Yorkshire Police were<br />
unable to say whether the body that was found<br />
was male or female, or provide an approximate age<br />
or say how long the body had been in the water.<br />
The spokesman added: “We are not yet in a<br />
position to give any details in terms of<br />
identifications, but will keep the public updated<br />
with developments.<br />
“The cause of death is currently unknown and is<br />
being treated as unexplained.<br />
“The body was later removed from the scene on<br />
Sunday and taken to York District Hospital.<br />
"Inquiries to establish the identity of the body<br />
found on Sunday remain ongoing."<br />

pronounced dead<br />
on the scene.<br />
Police are now<br />
appealing for<br />
witnesses to the<br />
collision and for<br />
people who saw<br />
the car being<br />
driven prior to the<br />
collision taking<br />
place. Police<br />
would particularly like to<br />
speak to the occupants of two<br />
VW Golf cars who stopped to<br />
assist at the scene.<br />

Two teens<br />
arrested<br />
over pub<br />
beer theft<br />
Two teenagers were arrested after beer<br />
was stolen and a member of staff was<br />
punched at a pub in Selby.<br />
In the early hours of Saturday,<br />
<strong>January</strong> 12, police were called to the<br />
Black-a-Moor pub on Finkle Street,<br />
where they arrested a 19-year-old male<br />
from Selby who was cautioned for<br />
burglary.<br />
A 19-year-old male from York was<br />
also arrested but later released on police<br />
bail pending further enquiries.<br />
Police attended the incident after<br />
receiving a call at 2.25am reporting <strong>17</strong><br />
bottles of beer which had being stolen<br />
and consumed in a private area of the<br />
pub.<br />
It is believed that a member of door<br />
staff at the pub was also punched<br />
during the incident.<br />
