CATEC engineers testing a robotic arm.
aviónica y sistemas, aviones no tripulados (UAV), materiales y nuevos
Laboratory for Advanced unmanned Systems), impulsado también
a site close to potential customers and partners, as well as to
other firms of the innovative and technological sector, mainly
Meanwhile, Tecnobahía concentrates the aerospace industry
of the Bay of Cádiz, with a great tradition linked to the former
Spanish company CASA. There are two sites of Airbus Group (in
the town of Puerto Real - The Trocadero) and Airbus Defence &
Space (El Puerto de Santa María), and it has about 70 hectares
available for the setting up of companies. The Tier One Alestis
Aerospace, Carbures, GECI, Titania, TAM Group or Aerotecnic-
Mecatecnic Group are located here, with other major companies
of the naval and defense sector as Navantia and Dragados
Offshore.
The Center for Advanced Aerospace Technologies (CATEC)
In Aerópolis is located one of the most important technological
facilities of the Andalusian aerospace cluster, the Center for
Advanced Aerospace Technologies (FADA-CATEC). Created in
2008 by the Andalusian Foundation for Aerospace Development
(FADA) as a support for the promotion of R&D and the improvement
of competitiveness of auxiliary enterprises, the center has
been very relevant in aerospace research in Andalusia in recent
years. Indeed, in just seven years has become one of the entities
with greater activity in the development of new technologies
and applications for the aviation industry. Also in this period it has
been achieved one of the largest R&D fundraising share, especially
various projects of the European Commission Seventh Framework
Programme.
CATEC is very active in the areas of robotics, avionics and systems,
unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), materials and new manufacturing
processes, and industrial automation, which are its main
lines of work, with more than 40 ongoing projects. Among these
works are outstanding projects linked to Ummaned Aerial Systems
or aerial robots, with applications developed for the aerospace industry,
particularly in civil applications, such as emergency opera-
