Europe, the European research center of the American manufacturer
Boeing, which has an agreement for the development of its
UAS tests and flights in ATLAS. Airbus has also shown interest in
using these facilities, which visited them just to know its capabilities,
and is exploring the possibility of developing its activities with
UAS there. The center also has increased its activity with other
companies specializing in UAS and various European research
consortia, and has already hosted some milestones in the field
of unmanned aviation, as the first flight beyond visual line of sight
made in Spain.
To the ATLAS Center will join this year other major project
of the Andalusian cluster for the UAS sector, the CEUS center
(Center of Excellence on Unmanned air Systems), devoted in
this case to tactical and strategic unmanned aircraft tests of
great size. This project is the result of an agreement between the
Government of Andalusia and the National Government, with an
investment of € 40 million and is currently in the final stage of
the procedure for getting permissions to start its works, which
are expected to be completed in mid-2016. CEUS includes the
construction and equipping of a center for testing, training and
assembling of unmanned aircraft of great features which will be
located next to the facilities that the National Institute for Aerospace
Technology (INTA) located in the town of Mazagón. In addition,
the center will have two areas of segregated airspace in
flight tests: one on the sea and the other on ground, in an area
of 75 hectares.
High technology in training
The extensive network of infrastructure of the Andalusian cluster
is completed with others related to the training of aviation professionals,
with high technological level. On the one hand, there is
the Flight Simulator and Training Centre for pilots and crews of
Airbus Defence & Space, which counts on state-of-the-art equip-
