RED POINT
SURPRISING IN STYLE
Designer Gema Torrent talks to us about the brand, its successes and
its goals.
Eagerly awaiting Spanish brand Red Point’s summer 2018 new
proposals, we chatted with designer Gema Torrent about the summer
2017 collection, which is original, trendy and it has been welcomed
with great enthusiasm by the public.
What was your inspiration for the summer 2017 collection?
We named the collection Riviera Cocktail. It proposes very glamorous
and highly sophisticated looks with a clear reminiscence of the French
Riviera, allowing women to be perfect at any time of the day.
Red Point proposes fun graphic prints with overlapping eye-deceiving
elements for the morning. Black and white combinations are key,
together with lime green and purple. The highlights of this collection
are the tops, whether in the shape of long-sleeved t-shirts or sporty, as
well as asymmetric one-shoulder cuts.
As the day goes on, prints take over and become kings of the beach.
Daisies climb up the swimsuits to reach the skin, and navy-style stripes
flaunt new colour combinations in red, burgundy and black. Frills and
flounces arrive in full force, turning swimsuits into perfect pieces to
dance in until the evening.
The sun goes down and sophisticated blacks make their entrance,
adorned with elements that enrich and emphasize the garments, such
as buckles, embellishing stitches and flowers. Golden reflections and
revealing openings dress the warm summer nights.
How was your experience at Barcelona 080?
It was a fantastic experience since it allowed us to unveil the essence
of our collection in a unique setting. Our factory is located on Costa
Brava, 100 kilometres from Barcelona so, what better occasion to
showcase our collection than the 080 Barcelona Fashion week?
Which items were the most appreciated by stores?
On the one hand, our usual designs, since versatility makes them very
sellable, but our customers expect us to surprise them year after year.
Hence, the great success of the recent incorporation of rubber pieces,
buckle sets and irregular finishes which give a special touch to the
collection.
In which markets is the brand present?
Red Point can be found throughout Europe, in addition to almost all
Latin American countries and Australia.
This year Italy has seen the biggest increase due to our affinity in
tastes and concept. But also Germany, where our control garments
and shapewear are highly praised. Our immediate project is to gain
strength within the countries where we are already present. We see
Italy and northern Europe as our best growing markets.
Could you reveal something about the summer 2018 collection?
We have one of the broadest collections on the market, which is one of
the reasons why I base the collection on a variety of trends suitable for
all types of women.
As an advance for 2018, you will find striking flowers with imperfectly
painted textures, knots and strings, new rustic textures imitating
traditional textile techniques, technological fabrics applying the latest
advances in elastic fibres, as well as velvety textures for luxurious
swimwear looks.
DISEGNADORES/DESIGNERS (on page 52)
ESTER MILANO
RESPONSIBLE FASHION
From Barcelona, this young designer is conquering the swimwear sector
with her original, modern and eco-sustainable brand Reset Priority.
Ester Milano carries fashion in her DNA. Born in 1985, she grew
up surrounded by the fashion patterns her dressmaker grandmother
worked with at a sewing atelier. She lived and studied in different
countries including Italy, France and Taiwan, where she specialized in
business administration and marketing.
In 2010, she decided to return and settle in Barcelona, where she started
working for a design company. She later went on to widen her experience
in multinational companies. All these events led her to reconnect
with the world of fashion she had left behind for a while. In 2013,
after having studied patronage at Felicidad Duce Fashion School and
having worked directly in specialized workshops in Italy and Spain,
Ester Milano founded her own brand Reset Priority, aimed at creating
high quality contemporary swimwear in an unmistakable and flattering
style ripe with modern, elegant and distinctive pieces. Additionally,
the brand’s production policy pays special attention to materials and
environmental sustainability so the garments are made from long-lasting
fabrics containing Xtra Life Lycra® fibre, or Italian fabrics made
with nylon Econyl®, which is obtained by
recycling fishing nets and plastic bottles. All items are made of materials
free from dangerous substances and they are manufactured in
socially responsible working environments, all Oeko-Tex® Standard
100 certified.
The collection is produced locally in Barcelona-based workshops so as
to guarantee that each Reset Priority piece undergoes rigorous quality
control.
Originality is paramount to this designer and her team, who is always
on the lookout for new materials, innovative lines and exclusive prints.
For instance, long before it became a global fashion trend in swimwear,
Reset Priority was amongst the first brands to offer neoprene and velvet
garments.
The summer 2017 collection spins around three axes, allowing for
multiple combinations of tops and panties. Mediterránea features lace
and transparencies with a Sicilian flare; Character stands out for its
vivid and trendy colours, such as complex oranges and bright blues;
while Natural takes inspiration from nature by using shades of green,
nude and blue in interchangeable garments to create many different
combinations.
The brand has attended major swimwear and lingerie events such
as Miami Swim Show and Mode City Paris, and it has been awarded
“The Future of Fashion Program” by Not Just a Label and Parisian fair
Who’s Next.
Reset Priority is available in select boutiques in Spain, Italy, Greece,
Morocco, Florida and the United Kingdom. Recently, the brand has
also introduced a new lingerie capsule collection.
