A BRITISH ADVISER SAYS A THIRD WAVE OF COVID-19 "IS ON THE WAY".
Un asesor británico dice que una
tercera ola de covid-19 "está en camino"
Londres, 19 jun (EFE).- Una tercera
ola de infecciones de coronavirus
está "definitivamente en camino"
en el Reino Unido, donde los contagios
diarios superan de nuevo los
10.000, según afirmó este sábado
Adam Finn, asesor del Gobierno
británico del llamado Comité conjunto
de Vacunación e Inmunicación
(JCVI).
En declaraciones hechas este sábado
a la emisora local BBC Radio
4, el académico de la universidad
inglesa de Bristol señaló que los
contagios de covid-19
"están subiendo", aunque concedió
que "quizás se puede ser un poco
optimista porque (estos) no están
subiendo más rápido".
"Aunque igualmente -agregó- están
aumentando, y esta tercera ola está
definitivamente en camino".
El experto consideró que ahora
mismo "hay una carrera entre el
programa de vacunación, particularmente
para suministrar a las personas
más mayores las segundas
dosis (del preparado) y la tercera
ola de la variante Delta (o India)",
que está acelerando los contagios.
El JCVI continúa trabajando para
decidir si los niños deberían también
ser inmunizados contra la covid-19,
si bien opinó que esa decisión
no es, por ahora, "prioritaria"
pues ha de ser antes aprobada.
"Aunque se decidiera inmunizar a
los niños, no sería apropiado hacerlo
ahora mismo, ni aquí ni en ninguna
otra parte de Europa (...) pues
son los adultos los que enferman,
con lo que vacunar a la población
adulta es ahora mismo claramente
la prioridad", remarcó Finn.
Según los últimos datos oficiales
suministrados por el ministerio británico
de Sanidad -divulgados el
viernes-, el número de contagios
registrados en el Reino Unido en 24
horas de enfermos que se sometieron
a una prueba de laboratorio fue
de 10.476.
Además, se notificaron otros 11
fallecimientos por la enfermedad,
conforme a esas cifras.
Desde el estallido de la pandemia,
el conjunto del país ha comunicado
un total de 127.956 decesos a causa
del coronavirus.

London, Jun 19 (EFE) - A third
wave of coronavirus infections is
"definitely on the way" in the United
Kingdom, where daily infections
again exceed 10,000, said Adam
Finn, a British government adviser
to the Joint Committee on Vaccination
and Immunization (JCVI).
Speaking to BBC Radio 4 on Saturday,
the Bristol University academic
said that Covid-19 infections "are
rising", although he conceded that
"perhaps we can be a little optimistic
because they are not rising any
faster".
"Although equally," he added, "they
are increasing, and this third wave
is definitely on its way.
The expert considered that right
now "there is a race between the
vaccination program, particularly to
provide older people with second
doses (of the preparation) and the
third wave of the Delta (or India)
variant," which is accelerating contagions.
The JCVI is still working to decide
whether children should also be immunized
against covid-19, but said
that this decision is not a "priority" at
this stage, as it needs to be approved
first.
"Even if it is decided to immunize
children, it would not be appropriate
to do so right now, neither here
nor anywhere else in Europe (...)
as it is the adults who get sick, so
vaccinating the adult population is
clearly the priority right now," Finn
remarked.
According to the latest official data
provided by the British Ministry of
Health - released on Friday - the
number of infections recorded in the
United Kingdom in 24 hours of patients
who underwent a laboratory
test was 10,476.
In addition, a further 11 deaths from
the disease were reported, according
to the figures.
Since the outbreak of the pandemic,
the country as a whole has reported
a total of 127,956 deaths from the
coronavirus.
