A mi hija, "Sí, esa es una mujerde color que ves sirviendo como vicepresidenta de los EstadosUnidos".Cada vez que compartes una foto de tu hijo con toga y birrete,tanto si se gradúa en el jardín de infancia como en el instituto oincluso en la universidad, no veo a un niño. Veo a un futuro líder, aun futuro empresario, a un futuro orgullo de la comunidad latina.Que sigan llegando las fotos. Estoy aquí para ellos.As I scroll down my Facebook news feed, I cannot describe howproud I am to see so many kids I know that are either graduating,moving on to the next grade, being recognized for their sportsperformance and even obtaining their college degrees. Its noexaggeration to gush over and over again. We are proud of you!As for the parents, I commend you as well. This may have beenthe most challenging academic year. We have had to catch up tothe latest technology, adjust our schedules, have a school lunchcafeteria at home and continue to earn a living.I am a fortunate parent to three brilliant children who bothchallenge me and make me proud every day. They keep me onmy toes between music lessons, taekwondo class and very smartanswers. Our next challenge will be having a high schooler in thehouse. Yes- a high schooler! Will it be a bumpy road or smoothsailing? Only time will tell.As immigrants or children of immigrants, we face a particular setof challenges when doing things like obtaining an education tomoving up the corporate ladder.However, it warms my heart to see how Latino children have morerole models to look up to everyday.We are able to say things like “Yes son, you can become an astronautif you so choose.” To my daughter, “Yes- that is a woman of colorthat you see serving as vice-president of the United States.”Every time you share a picture of your child wearing a cap andgown, whether they are graduating from kindergarten, high schoolor even college, I don’t see a child. I see a future leader, a futureentrepreneur, a future pride and joy of the Latino community.Keep the pictures coming. I am here for them!The end of the school year is upon us and what a year it’s been!Our children have had to adapt to online learning and managedto thrive! It has been a testimony of how truly resilient childrencan be. They survived a worldwide pandemic that turned theirworld upside down, going months without seeing their friendsand starting the school year without the hugs and smiles of somesweet first grade teacher who would have a life-long impact ontheir learning techniques.
