ple and other dogs that are friendly to them.
Even if you are mostly in a hurry when you
are judging, I try to to give the dogs lacking a
little in confidence, some extra time, so they
will (hopefully) feel better and more secure
at their next show. If it is not too bad, I will
not punish these puppies or youngsters – for
most of them it is just a matter of time before
they become «professional» showdogs.
My Puppy Best of Breed was Yalameh Quyan
al Kamal, a very stylish boy, with masculine,
but still elegant head; strong topline and
long brisket and with really good sidegait.
Junior classes showed a variety of types and
development. A few were a little coarse and
heavy muscled. A couple were still rather upright
in angulation and had not «settled» yet,
which is normal. BOB Junior was the bitch
Damira Al Naqawa, very attractive outline,
with typical breed details and easy, effortless
movement.
I found my CAC.winner in males in Intermediate
class, Velourias Viscount Verve. He is powerful,
but not too heavy; with a very pleasing
outline and in superb condition, has good
reach and stability in movement.
Champion class: Several quality dogs, but
one excelled in type and breed details –
Majo’s Beemin; lovely outline and smooth
efficient movement. Looking in my catalogue
afterwards, I can see where he got his looks
from! He was an easy pick for Best male.
Nr. 1 in Junior class, and JgdBOB, was the
very feminine and attractive Damira Al Naqawa,
nothing overdone, moderate and with a
pleasing outline.
Lacrima di Gioia Karoly was alone in Intermediate
class. Many good details, but needed to
develop in the body and settle down.
My pick among the six champions, Yalameh
Nayeli, had absolutely correct outline and
proportions, and she was ultrafeminine.
Moved effortless and kept her «frame» and
topline very well at all times.
The only bitch in Working class, Ni’lay Fera’ye
Al Asmaanii, had many positive points and
was very sound and balanced on the move. A
slightly longer brisket would have completed
the picture.
A really big Open class offered the typical
variations that can be seen in this breed. It
was not difficult to point at my favorite! The
very eyecatching Kan Ya Ma Kan Laily showed
perfect breed type and proportions, moved
beautifully and carried herself with style.
She was the obvious CAC-winner and neither
could she be beaten for Best Bitch.
Looking at my two winners when it was time
to award Best of Breed, I knew this was going
to be a hard decision. They are both exceptional
representatives for their breed and I had
to take into consideration the minor points.
The bitch would have looked even better
with slightly less weight and had to give way
for her male competitor. Another day – and
with the bitch in perfect condition – the
result might have been different! From the
crowd ringside shouting «Forza Italia» I understood
some foreign visitors were pleased
with the outcome!
Seeing my BOB Afghan in the ring Sunday
afternoon, when Gabriele Eiga was about
to chose Supreme Best in Show was a thrill.
Shaira Bint Benasid von Haussman sure is a
dog for the big occasions – floating around
the ring, proud and aloof, she seemed to
know nobody could give her a serious match!
Once again: Thank you for a most enjoyable
weekend, thanks to the organizers as well as
all the people who came to this magnificent
show with their beloved dogs and received
my decisions with great sportmanship. Donaueschingen
sure is THE sighthound event
in Europe, and I hope to be back soon as an
exhibitor.
On my way back home Monday morning I
had only one worry: Did Olaf still have an
intact voice? Would he be able to speak the
following days? I am amazed by his energy;
I heard his voice from morning to late night
throughout the weekend, and I never saw a
manuscript – impressing!
