The concern of tomorrow`s energy resources and global warming have started
many processes. Northern WoodHeat –project is a part of Scotland`s bioenergy
development with Finnish knowhow. Scotland has a lot of potentional biomass in
forests, which can be used as resources for bioenergy.
In this thesis the focus is in Scotland Highlands machinery based thinnings and
clear-cuttings productivity of sitkas spruce. The subject has not been studied
much.
Main study method is time studies. The data has been collected in Scotland Highlands
19.3 – 29.3.2006. The results are presented in commonly used forms productivity
(m 3 /h) to stem volume (dm 3 ) and cutting time by workstages.
The results of productivity were as expected. Main differences compared to other
researches were found in processing time (cutting and declimping), which is bigger
with sitkas spruce than norway spruce because of sitkas` branches. Because
of the small amount of time study data, the results must be viewed critically.
