But apart from style and elegance, Prada has another raison d'être:
art. So Miuccia Prada broadens her horizons. She is involved in
artistic creation through Fondazione Prada, set up in 1993, which
works to promote "the most radical intellectual issues in contemporary
culture and art". The aim? To organise events worldwide and
create works at the confines of art, fashion, cinema and culture.
Prada Transformer, an arts centre in Seoul set up in collaboration
with artist Rem Koolhass, is the finest example of this and proves
that the designer's talents are many, embracing modernity and tradition,
advanced technology and artisanship. Instinctive and a
touch provocative, just like her fashion products.
Un été entre pop et baroque
Son génie ? Imposer des collections à contre-courant. Susciter
le désir avec des looks originaux, hors tendances mais toujours
dans l’air du temps. L’été 2011 sonne le retour à l’optimisme? Voilà
que la femme Prada se pavane dans une garde-robe audacieuse,
haute en couleurs. Elle arbore aisément une robe kimono orange
vitaminé à la coupe minimaliste, un tailleur jupe bleu électrique ou
un ensemble blouson zippé et jupe volantée vert sapin. Perchée sur
des compensées, le sac à main en ton sur ton et l’étole en fourrure
multicolore à bout de bras, elle ose les rayures en all-over ou
contrastées par des ornements baroques, des imprimés «singes»
ou «bananes» inspirés de la musique sud-américaine. La femme
Prada n’a peur de rien. Sauf peut-être de passer inaperçue. Même
combat pour sa petite sœur chez Miu Miu. La ligne joue la palette
graphique de couleurs version petites robes en satin rouge, noir
et gris aux reflets métallisés. La soie liquide rouge sang, bleu

Le grand-père de Miuccia Prada, fondateur de la maison de luxe
italienne, voyageait beaucoup à travers le monde afin de découvrir
de nouvelles techniques artisanales et des matériaux inédits.
En boutique depuis janvier, les collections «Prada made in…»
soufflent un retour à l’ADN maison. Pour ce projet, la marque a
collaboré avec des artisans du Japon, de l’Inde, du Pérou ou de
l’Ecosse afin de produire des pièces mettant en lumière les spécificités
de chaque pays et le savoir-faire local. «Prada made in
Japan» propose des jeans produits par Dova. En Ecosse, ce
sont les kilts qui ont attiré l’attention. «Prada made in India»
consiste en une collection de robes brodées, de ballerines et de
sacs faits à la main. Une ligne de maille en alpaga a, quant à elle,
été réalisée pour révéler le savoir-faire du Pérou. -/ Miuccia
Prada's grandfather, founder of the Italian luxury fashion house,
travelled all over the world to discover new artisan techniques
and unsuspected materials. The Prada Made In… collections, in
the shops since January, represent a renewal of this. For the project,
Prada worked with artisans in Japan, India, Peru and
Scotland to produce garments that highlight each country's specific
features and local knowhow. Prada Made In Japan offers
jeans by Dova. In Scotland it was kilts that caught the eye. Prada
Made In India consists of a collection of embroidered dresses,
pumps and handmade bags. And to highlight Peruvian knowhow,
a line of alpaca knitwear has been created.

noir, or ou argent aux dessins naïfs en aplat et aux manches surdimensionnées.
À la croisée des influences 60’s, 70’s et 80’s, réminiscence
des pop stars de ces époques, les motifs étoiles, fleurs et
cœurs viennent égayer cette collection électrisante. De quoi nous
redonner le goût de l’extravagance… et surtout le sourire!
A summer of pop and baroque
Her genius? Imposing collections that go against the grain. Inciting
desire through original looks that are outside the trends but always
in synch with today. Does summer 2011 herald the return of optimism?
Prada women, at least, will be strutting their stuff in an audacious
and highly colourful wardrobe, totally at ease in a minimallycut
energising orange kimono dress, an electric-blue suit or a forestgreen
outfit of zipped blouson and flounced skirt. Perched on her
platforms, dangling her tone-on-tone bag and multicoloured fur
stole, she flaunts stripes either all over or contrasting with baroque
adornments, monkey and banana prints inspired by South American
music. Prada woman fears nothing – except, perhaps, not being
noticed! The same goes for her little sister at Miu Miu, playing with
a graphic colour palette applied to little dresses in red, black and
grey satin with metallic glints. Liquid silk in blood red, electric blue
or fluo yellow confronts the stiff leather of a black, gold or silver perfecto
jacket with naïve colour blocking and oversized sleeves.
Drawing on the 60s, 70s and 80s in reminiscences of those eras'
pop stars, motifs of stars, flowers and hearts brighten up this electrifying
collection. Just the thing for reviving a taste for extravagance
and, more importantly, putting a smile on our faces !
