The Professional Insertion Process for Québec Teaching Graduates:<br />
An Analysis of Career Paths<br />

This article summarizes specific results of a study on the integration of young<br />
teachers into the Quebec teaching profession during the difficult times of the 1980s<br />
and 1990s. On the basis of interviews and a docum<strong>en</strong>tary review, that study analyzed<br />
teachers’ transition paths in <strong>de</strong>pth and brought to light the various integration<br />
approaches used by teachers. This article does not pres<strong>en</strong>t the <strong>de</strong>tailed results for<br />
each theme explored by the study, but attempts to reconstruct the overall meaning of<br />
the transition process beyond the diversity and particularity of paths and the experi<strong>en</strong>ce<br />
of the teachers who were interviewed. The study explained three fundam<strong>en</strong>tal<br />
aspects to the transition paths of young teachers: a) the non-linearity of the process<br />
and the non-exist<strong>en</strong>ce of any one transition mo<strong>de</strong>l; b) the progressive improvem<strong>en</strong>t<br />
to the teachers’ professional situation over time and c) the historicity of paths tak<strong>en</strong>.<br />
These results bear witness to the need to review notions of precariousness, stability,<br />
job security and integration, all of which are stuck in the era of full employm<strong>en</strong>t and<br />
the use of objective and economic parameters.<br />

El proceso <strong>de</strong> integración profesional <strong>de</strong> los diplomados <strong>en</strong> educación <strong>en</strong><br />
Quebec: un análisis <strong>de</strong> trayectorias<br />

Este artículo pres<strong>en</strong>ta una síntesis parcial <strong>de</strong> los resultados <strong>de</strong> una investigación<br />
sobre el proceso <strong>de</strong> inserción profesional <strong>de</strong> jóv<strong>en</strong>es maestros <strong>en</strong> el mercado <strong>de</strong> trabajo<br />
quebequ<strong>en</strong>ce <strong>en</strong> la difícil coyuntura económica <strong>de</strong> los años 80 y 90. A partir <strong>de</strong><br />
<strong>en</strong>trevistas y <strong>de</strong> un análisis <strong>de</strong> docum<strong>en</strong>tos, esta investigación analiza <strong>de</strong>talladam<strong>en</strong>te<br />
las trayectorias <strong>de</strong> inserción y subraya las difer<strong>en</strong>tes lógicas <strong>de</strong> construcción<br />
que se <strong>de</strong>spliegan. Este artículo no muestra todos los resultados <strong>de</strong> la investigación,<br />
sino que trata <strong>de</strong> recomponer una totalidad significante que muestre cómo las<br />
trayectorias <strong>de</strong> inserción se <strong>de</strong>spliegan más allá <strong>de</strong> la diversidad y singularidad <strong>de</strong> los<br />
itinerarios y <strong>de</strong> la vida profesional <strong>de</strong> los maestros y maestras <strong>en</strong>trevistados. La investigación<br />
muestra y explica tres aspectos fundam<strong>en</strong>tales <strong>de</strong> las trayectorias <strong>de</strong> tres<br />
jóv<strong>en</strong>es maestros: a) la no linearidad y la aus<strong>en</strong>cia <strong>de</strong> un mo<strong>de</strong>lo único, b) el mejorami<strong>en</strong>to<br />
progresivo <strong>de</strong> la situación profesional con el paso <strong>de</strong>l tiempo, c) la histori-<br />
