L’aménagementdes digues, du chenal et des bassins ne surviendraqu’après la 1 ère guerre mondiale. Avec unevingtaine de bateaux de 7 à 16 m, Grandcampreste un des ports de pêche actifs du Calvados*.Coquille Saint-Jacques d’octobre à mai, moules,sole, plie ou raie, collin et rouget plus au large,les pêcheurs, attachés au port depuis plusieursgénérations, vendent, chaque jour, le fruit variéde leur pêche à la criée.La GrandcopaiseGrandcamp il y a une célèbre veille dameÀ aux voiles rouges… La Grandcopaise, barquechalutière, réplique de celles qui fréquentaientla baie de Seine vers 1900 et que l’associationTorbouai du Bessin* s’est employée à restaurer,entre 1990 et 1993, selon les plans de l’ancienchalutier Franck-Yannick, construit à Cherbourg enPêche de nuitDepuis 2007, le festival La coquille Saint-Jacquesen Fête, le premier week-end de décembre, célèbrel'ouverture du gisement de coquilles de labaie de Seine, le principal gisement de Normandiedont est issue la coquille Label Rouge**, ouvertde décembre à tout début mars. Il est possible aujourd’hui d’embarquer sur laGrandcopaise pour découvrir la côte normande (sousréserve d’adhésion à l’association), de la pointe duHoc à Saint-Vaast ou Tatihou par exemple...* Créée en 1990, l’association des Vieux Gréements Torbouaidu Bessin fait référence à « Tor Bay », lieu de pêcheprisé des Grandcopais, sur la côte sud de l’Angleterre.Where shells are the belles of the ball…The Saint-Jacques Scallop FestivalOnce a dry port, Grandcampwas a busy fishingspot throughout the 19thcentury. The installationof dykes, a channel anddocks occurred after WorldWar I. With thirty 7 to 16-metre long boats at port,Grandcamp remains one ofthe Calvados region's mostactive fishing ports*. CatchSaint-Jacques scallops fromOctober to May, alongwith mussels, sole, plaiceand further out to sea, ray,hake and red mullet. Eachday the fishermen auctionoff their catch of the dayat the fish market. Since2007, the first weekend inDecember has hosted theSaint-Jacques Scallop Festivalin celebration of theLa Grancopaise,reconnaissable àses voiles rougesfield of scallops in the Bayof the Seine. Open fromDecember to the beginningof March this is the numberone spot in Normandy whereLabel Rouge scallops** canbe found. The restoration wascompleted using the plansof the old trawler, the FranckYannick, built in Cherbourg in1949.
