Folk Traditions of Treatment in the Caucasus
According to ethnographic and archival materials and written sources folk
medicine ( especialy surgery) was well developed among the peoples of the
Caucasus. Various species of Caucasian flora and fauna were used by healers
for prepareing different remedies .
Among the Caucasian peoples the medicinal knowledge was kept strictly in
secrecy and was handed down. Noteworthy is that the Georgian healers applied
to the ancient Georgian medicinal scripts— The Karabadini.
Generally the Caucasus is famous for its healthy climat; however there are
some regions with unhealthy climatic-geographical environment , where the
endemic diseases, such as goitre amd malaria had been spread from ancient
times.
