sektor pertanian, 18,99 persen penduduk usia bekerja bekerja pada sektor
perdagangan, hotel dan restoran, 12,01 persen bekerja pada sektor industri, sebanyak
22,99 persen penduduk usia kerja tersebar pada enam sektor yang lain yaitu sektor
pertambangan dan penggalian, sektor listrik, gas dan air bersih, sektor konstruksi,
sektor pengangkutan dan komunikasi, sektor lembaga keuangan dan sektor jasa-jasa.
POPULATION
According to Population Projection of SUPAS 2005, the number of population in
Kulon Progo Regency in 2009 was 374.921 persons consisted of 183.892 male
(49,05 percent) and 191.029 female (50,95 percent).
Censuses results show a fluctuated population number and other demographic
parameters. In 1980, Population census total population reported was 380.685
persons, with sex ratio of 95. With total area of 58.627,54 km 2 , the population density
in Kulon Progo was 649 persons/km2. The subsequent 1990 Population census
recorded that total population of 2000 has dropped by -0,22 percent to 372.309
persons with sex ratio of 96, therefore the population density dropped to 635
persons/km 2 . The population number continued to fall in the 2000 Population census,
which reported -0,04 decceleration rate, in total of 370.944 persons with population
density of 633 persons/km 2 . Interestingly enough, Sex ratio figures continued to climb
to 97.
Population is an important assets in the development of a nation. However,
various problems will rise if the growth rate of population left unmanaged.
Therefore, the challenge of controlling the population growth needs serious attention
from the government. One of the government's efforts in order to curb population
growth is family planning program (KB). In 2009, there were 50.906 active
participants and 5.765 new participants of family planning program in Kulon Progo
Regency. Compared with 2008, the number of independent active family planning
acceptors increased by 2,53 percent, while the number of new acceptors in fact
decreased by -0.69 percent.
