In 2009, the infrastructure development in Kulon Progo district was
accelerating significantly. The continuous improvement of construction of
infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and communications utilities were a true
evidence of the exertion. Various types of land transportation facilities already
reached the remote villages.
The road length in Kulon Progo Regency in 2009 was 1.112.373 km, consisted
of 28.570 km or 2,57% of State roads, 158.500 km or 14,25% of Provincial roads
and along 925.303 km or 83,18% of County roads.
The division of roads in Kulon Progo by Type of Surface:
a. Paved about 716.638 km or 64,42%.
b. Gravel about 281.093 km or 25,27%
c. Land about 114.642 km or 10,31%
The division of roads in Kulon Progo by condition:
a. Good, about 551.065 km or 49,54%
b. Medium, about 423.511 km or 38,07%
c. Damaged, about 111.175 km or 9,99%
d. Heavily Damaged, about 26.622 km or 2,39%
The number of bridges in Kulon Progo was 430, mostly located in mountainous
areas with gorges and rivers, such as Kalibawang Subdistrict (60 bridges),
Samigaluh Subdistrict (62 bridges), and Kokap Subdistrict (42 bridges).
Total mandatory-tested public transportation vehicles were 5.013 or 47,84%,
and 4.956 (47,30%) among them passed the test, while 57 or 0.54% failed to comply.
About 80 vehicles (0,76%) took their First Periodical Test and 372 vehicles or 3,55%
were vehicles from outside Kulon Progo who take the examination.
