anti-roma protest in Varnsdorf
registrato importanti successi elet‑
torali: da ultimo in Finlandia dove il
partito dei Veri Finlandesi è arrivato a
raccogliere il 20% dei consensi. Nella
vicina Ungheria il partito Jobbik, di
dichiarato e spinto nazionalismo,
è entrato in parlamento nel 2010
conquistando 47 dei 386 seggi. Una
tendenza di cui sorride Pavel Szudár,

It is clear that the issue of the right
in the Czech Republic remains a topic
to be approached with caution. The

so a causa di un’ideologia estremista
sfociata in derive criminali.
Ora, oltre la cronaca, non resta che
guardare sulle prossime elezioni,
bilancia ultima di ogni speculazione
politica. Solo allora la Repubblica
Ceca potrà quantificare, o smentire, il
peso crescente della sua destra.
Varnsdorf protests have reached the
capital through the chants “Let’s send
the gypsys to Prague!” The foreign minister
Karel Schwarzenberg has blasted
the protests on numerous occasions,
which are parades for extremists. One
must not also forget that the DSSS
themselves are basically successors of
the old Dělnická strana (workers party),
whose activity was stopped by the
supreme court in February last year
due to an extremist ideology resulting
in crime.
Currently, overlooking the current
events, the only option is to look towards
the next elections, the ultimate
measure of all political speculations.

Se lo sbarramento parlamentare del
5% rimane un traguardo irraggiun‑
gibile per qualsivoglia formazione
manifestamente nazionalista non
lo sarebbe per una formazione più
moderata, supportata da argomenti
popolari. Va inoltre tenuta in consi‑
derazione una altra soglia: l’agognato
3% che da accesso al finanziamento
pubblico ai partiti.
La situazione attuale potrebbe favo‑
rire il farsi avanti di un leader forte e
carismatico, come l’attuale presidente
Klaus, in grado di fare presa su una lar‑
ga parte di opinione pubblica. È palese
che la questione Rom vada discussa
con maggiore tranquillità e concretez‑
za. Partendo da questi presupposti un
nuovo partito di destra ha tutte le carte
in regola per imporsi, superando di un
buon margine la percentuale di ingres‑
so in parlamento. Per ora tutto resta
incerto, così non resta che riavvolgere il
nastro e tornare a chiederci: cosa dob‑
biamo aspettarci?

an unreachable objective for
any openly nationalist organization, it
would not be for a more moderate one
which is supported by more popular
ideas. Another threshold must also be
taken into consideration. The much
desired 3% which provides access to
public financing of the parties.
The current situation could favour the
progress of a strong charismatic leader
such as current president Klaus, who is
capable of getting a strong grip on the
overall public opinion. It is obvious that
the Roma question must be discussed
with more care and concreteness. Starting
from these premises a new rightwing
party has all the cards necessary
to assert itself, and exceed the percentage
needed for entry in parlament.
For now it remains uncertain, therefore
the only thing to do is rewind the ribbon
and go back to asking ourselves,
what should we expect?
