<strong>del</strong> farmaco hanno tuttavia affermato il loro impegno nella ricerca<br />
in misura significativa: gli investimenti in R&S si sono attestati<br />
a 319 milioni (vs. 300 milioni) pari ad un incremento<br />
<strong>del</strong> 6,3% rispetto all’anno precedente, a conferma <strong>del</strong>la volontà<br />
di contribuire alla creazione di innovazione. Le imprese<br />
<strong>del</strong> farmaco contribuiscono con 1.091 milioni agli investimenti<br />
in R&S, +2,2% rispetto all’anno precedente (1.068 milioni).<br />
Quanto agli addetti occupati in attività di ricerca e sviluppo,<br />
il trend pressoché stabile <strong>del</strong> <strong>settore</strong> è determinato da un lato<br />
dal contribuito <strong>del</strong>le imprese <strong>del</strong> farmaco (+3,3%) e dall’altro dal<br />
calo <strong>del</strong>le altre biotech <strong>del</strong> farmaco (-11,3%): le prime occupano<br />
nel complesso 3.627 addetti (rispetto ai 3.510 <strong>del</strong>lo scorso<br />
anno), le seconde 1.219 unità (rispetto alle 1.375 precedenti).<br />
La Figura 3.1 riassume i principali dati <strong>del</strong> <strong>settore</strong> biotech<br />
totale, <strong>del</strong> red biotech e <strong>del</strong> comparto <strong>del</strong> farmaco biotech,<br />
scomposto per imprese <strong>del</strong> farmaco e altre biotech <strong>del</strong> farmaco.<br />
La rilevanza <strong>del</strong>l’industria <strong>del</strong> farmaco biotech nel promuovere<br />
la R&S è confermata dall’analisi comparativa con gli altri settori<br />
industriali <strong>del</strong> Paese. Quello <strong>del</strong> farmaco biotech rappresenta<br />
infatti uno dei primi settori per attività di ricerca in Italia, con<br />
un’intensità relativa – in termini di addetti e investimenti –<br />
circa 4 volte superiore rispetto ai settori a media-alta tecnologia<br />
e circa 9 volte quella media manifatturiera. Come anticipato<br />
in Italia sono impiegati 4.846 Ricercatori che nel 2011 hanno<br />
potuto contare su investimenti pari a 1.410 milioni (Figura 3.2).<br />
