The company was represented at the ceremony by
Ansaldo Nucleare Managing Director Roberto Adinolfi
and Ansaldo Energia Human Resources and
Organisation Director Andrea Del Chicca.
“Stelle al Merito” were awarded to Maria Grazia
Cattaneo and Giovanni Ferrando for Ansaldo Energia,
and to Marco Reale for Ansaldo Nucleare.
MARIA GRAZIA CATTANEO has devoted her entire
working life to Ansaldo group management.
She has always represented a distinctive presence
for the company’s top customers, building significant
experience in EPC (Equipment, Procurement
and Construction) contract control activities and
contributing specifically to the realisation of foreign
plants.
During her professional career, she has worked on
top level project teams, contributing effectively to
planning and production control. In 2003 she was
made Project Controller.
Today she represents an extremely valuable resource
for the company and its overseas activities,
with an approach, skills and commitment that
make her a benchmark for senior colleagues and
an untiring tutor for younger employees.
GIOVANNI FERRANDO has always worked in the factories
of Ansaldo group, in its various corporate
transformations over the years.
He continues to stand out today for his attachment
to the company, which is demonstrated not
least by his availability, inventiveness and ability

nella modellizzazione, nel calcolo e
nella verifica dei componenti più complessi e
innovativi degli impianti nucleari, quali: l’impianto
sperimentale PEC (Progetto Unificato
Nucleare) dell’Enel basato su tecnologia PWR
Westinghouse; il generatore di vapore per l’impianto
americano di Palo Verde; l’impianto
francese di Superphenix, un’impresa internazionale
di alto livello per contenuti tecnologici,
ingegneristici e gestionali; i reattori a fusione
NET e JET; l’impianto di stoccaggio rifiuti ad alta
attività Covra-Habog in Olanda. L’elenco poi potrebbe
continuare.
La sua indiscussa competenza tecnica nel
campo dell’analisi strutturale agli Elementi Finiti
e delle normative di progettazione meccanica
ne hanno fatto un vero punto di riferimento,
soprattutto per le nuove generazioni,
che trovano in lui risposte precise e puntuali,
insieme all’invito a “mai dimenticare il buon
senso” ingegneristico. È coordinatore del
gruppo di lavoro UNI/UNICEN che ha il compito
di definire e aggiornare le normative applicabili
al nucleare del futuro ed è uno dei principali
“task leader” a livello europeo nel campo
dei reattori di IV generazione.

Marco Reale receives his “Stella al Merito” from
Member of Parliament Mario Tullo
to teach young people. His success at transferring
skills to new generations have made him a general
point of reference and appreciation. It is no coincidence
that he trains the people who go on to occupy
positions of responsibility, not only in relation
to technical issues, but also to professional
and moral questions. In 2009, he was officially
recognised for his operational excellence in “critical
activities” because of the particularly complex
and technical operating duties assigned to him.
At the present time he works as a mechanical adjuster
and installer of fixed bucket wheels in the
erection department of Ansaldo Energia’s Genoa
production facility, in a role of great responsibility
and delicacy.
MARCO REALE has spent his entire professional career
in the Ansaldo group.
Over the years he has left his imprint on modeling,
computation and verification activities for the
most complex and innovative components in nuclear
plants, including the PEC experimental plant
(Unified Nuclear Project) for Enel based on Westinghouse
PWR technology; the steam generator
for the Palo Verde plant in the US; the Superphenix
plant in France, a top level international project in
terms of its technological, engineering and management
content; the NET and JET fusion reactors;
and the Covra-Habog storage plant for highly radioactive
waste in The Netherlands. And we could
go on.
His undisputed technical competence in relation
to Finite Element structural analysis and mechanical
engineering design rules have made him a
point of reference in the company, particularly for
new generations, who receive precise, prompt answers
from him, together with the invitation
“never to forget common engineering sense”. He
is the coordinator of the UNI/UNICEN work group
which has the task of defining and updating the
regulations applicable to nuclear power and is one
of the main European task leaders in the field of IV
generation reactors.
