mons. Giuseppe Ghiberti, President of the Diocese Commission
for the Holy Shroud in Turin, during their speeches.
scientifiche a favore o meno dell’autenticità
della Sindone, sembrava ancora risuonare la
domanda fatta dal Maestro ai suoi discepoli:
“Ma voi chi dite che io sia”. Tutti i presenti
Ghiberti. Colpisce in quel volto la serenità
nella sofferenza che costituisce preludio alla
speranza di salvezza che si concretizzerà nella
Pasqua di resurrezione. Quale misteriosa
somigliante all’uomo della
The Holy
Shroud
image and meaning
Messia”, these words are by Jacopone da Todi,
who expressed what follows: what appears to
be foolish and mad to the world, turns to be
wisdom and light for God. It is what two thousand
people understood on the occasion of the
significato” (The Holy Shroud, the image and its
meaning) in the Cathedral of Como, organized
by the Association Amici di Como, in collaboration
with the Diocese of Como, the Cathedral
and the Diocese Commission for the Holy
Shroud in Turin. With the contribution of songs,
music and images, the person responsible for
the preservation of the Holy Shroud, Monsignor
Ghiberti, exposed the questions related to the
contemplation of the relic. All the eyes were fixed
on the face imprinted on the blanket, mirror
of dramatic events for the man, who was tortured
and submitted to the agony of the Cross.
Many evidences give proof to the fact that he
was Jesus of the Gospel. A part from the scientific
evidence regarding the Holy Shroud in favour
or not of the authenticity of the Holy Shroud, it
was just like we heard the question Jesus asked
to his disciples: “Who do you think I am”. People
who were present could find in themselves
an answer to this question, helped by the precise
description of the man represented by the
Holy Shroud, made by Monsignor Ghiberti. In
the face what strikes is the serenity in the pain,
which represents the prelude to the hope of
salvation, which becomes real in the Easter of
Resurrection. Like a mysterious picture of a lost
friend, the image looks at us from the past: the
stories of the Gospel gain importance and we
can link those words with the image, the result
is impressive. The Holy Shroud is close to the history
of every man, it doesn’t impose the faith,
but it just poses a question. Everyone is free to
answer, noboby can be indifferent. The ancient
icons which are still preserved, dated back to
the 6th century A.C., which are copies of the
archetypes handed out from one generation to
the other, represent a man, who is surprisingly
very similar to the man represented in the Holy
Shroud; that man invites us to that meeting
with Him and it is foundation and exclusive
characteristic of Christianity. This appointment
was enriched by the great interpretation of the
baritone Carlo Morini and of the maestro Alessandro
Picchi, by the images of Don Andrea
Straffi, proposed lyrics by L.Perosi, ending with
“Anima Christi”.
E un Bonus.
Ritmi, canzoni, battute e tanta buona musica,
personaggi politici, imprenditori e musicisti,
tutto rispetto proponendo brani “ever green”
degli anni ’60 e ’70. Leo Valli, presentatore e
I Nuovi Angeli
(con il cantante comasco Raffaele Schiavoni,
Paki Canzi, Valentina Ferri, Stefano Mellerio,
Paolo Pagani e Emilio Bonvini), hanno proposto
le celebri e sempre orecchiabili “Singapore”
e “Donna Felicità”, I Beati composto da
Cesare Baj, Gianfranco Ambrosoli, Daniele Baricci,
Paolo Teatini e Maurizio Orlandi, hanno
invece interpretato cover di gruppi americani
e inglesi.
presidente dell’amministrazione provinciale
I Blackstones (Frank
Night, Sir Darius McCarthey, Riki Van Der Wall,
Lanny Brush e Nick Dylan),band riconosciuta
come gruppo autorizzato al tributo di Bob
Dylan, ha presentato brani dell’artista statunitense.
Infine, I Vintage, gruppo musicale composto
da Maurizio Giunco, Massimo Vita, Valter
Azzolini e Vanny Patriarca, accompagnato
dall’orchestra sinfonica diretta dal maestro
Pierangelo Gelmini, ha magistralmente e magicamente,
concluso la serata.

at … Sociale
Rhythm, songs, jokes and lots of good music
are the main ingredients of the show “Como
che in-canta” (Como sings songs), organized by
“Amici di Como”, “Etv” and “Corriere di Como”
on Thursday 12th March at the Teatro Sociale.
An extraordinary musical show with a charity
purpose, in order to help the association “Simpatia”
of Valmorea, that takes care of disabled
persons. Politicians, entrepreneurs and musicians
gave life to a musical kermesse of all
respect proposing “ever green” songs of ‘60ies
and ‘70ies. Leo Valli, anchorman of the evening,
pretended to act like the Italian anchorman
Maurizio Costanzo during his “Maurizio Costanzo
Show” with the direction of Renzo Pesci.
Between gag and jokes of the anchorman, the
crowded theatre followed the performances of
four bands, which alternated themselves on stage.
The Nuovi Angeli (Raffaele Schiavoni, Paki
Canzi, Valentina Ferri, Stefano Mellerio, Paolo
Cesar Baj, Gianfranco Ambrosoli, Daniele Baricci,
Paolo Teatini and Maurizio Orlandi, introduced
covers of American and English groups. The
anchorman, Leo Valli received and interviewed
politicians on a red sofa, which was strategically
placed on stage, during the evening they tried
unusual roles for them, for example acting and
singing. Surprising the performance of Leonardo
Carioni, President of the Provincial Administration,
who sang “Emozione non ha voce” by
Adriano Celentano, a song which is not easy to
perform. Sergio Gaddi, Councilor of Culture in
the Municipality of Como turned to be an actor
and with a deep voice, he recited parts of “Le
piccole cose che amo di te” by Stefano Benni,
“Se” by Rudyard Kipling and “S’i fosse foco arderei
‘l mondo” by Cecco Angiolieri. Continuing
with politicians, Giorgio Pozzi, commissioner of
Forza Italia, proposed the songs “Un’avventura”
by Battisti and “Che sarà” by Ricchi e Poveri.
Thanks also to a good game of lights the public,
warmth and always involved, listened to the
fantastic songs of ‘70ies. The Blackstones (Frank
Night, Sir Darius McCarthey, Riki Van Der Wall,
Lanny Brush e Nick Dylan), band known as an
authorized group, paid a tribute to Bob Dylan
and presented songs of the American artist.
At the end, the Vintage, group made by Massimo
Vita, Maurizio Giunco, Walter Azzolini and
Vanny Patriarca, together with the symphony
orchestra, directed by the maestro Pierangelo
Gelmini, skillfully and magically, closed the
evening.
«Positive evening – said Daniele Brunati, patron
of “Amici di Como” – the people of Como answered
with their heart; more than 10 thousand
Euro were given to the association “Sim-patia”.
They are always very generous and talking
about music, we can say that they answered in
a choral way…”»
Como’s Villa Bianca project in viale Geno
ambientale situato a Menaggio.
All’esterno, invece, nel verdeggiante giardino,
Villa Bianca sits tiara-like between the blue of the lake and
the green of the hill in Viale Geno, Como’s most prestigious
dialogue between exterior and interior which has previously
been a feature of a rationalist-style villas on Como Lake. One
of the most obvious stylistic features of Villa Bianca’s project is
the sophisticated use of natural materials. Stone is used to cover
and protect, Glass enables the play of light and transparency,
wood gives the living space ab almost physical warmth thanks
to the total exposure to the sun. Villa Bianca lives and breathes
in contact with natural elements.
At Villa Bianca there will be a swimming pool, health and fitness
areas, and a winery.
Meanwhile, outside in the lush garden the lower ground floor
will house a large private car park together with a dock, with
moorage for boats and direct access to the lake.
marzo scorso, Mario Botta, illustre maestro
dell’architettura internazionale.
Quest’ultimo
in maniera curiosa, ha improvvisato schizzi
di architetture fantastiche, autografi e dediche
sulla ristampa del suo volume “Quasi un
diario”.
introdotto dall’ing. Daniele Manzolini.
Il maestro, ha illustrato alcune sue recenti
opere e ha sottolineato la sua interpretazione
dello spazio del sacro librandosi dalla
chiesa ettagonale del Santo Volto di Torino
alla Sinagoga a Tel Aviv. Ha di seguito raccontato
alcuni aspetti singolari relativi alla
realizzazione della Cantina Petra a Suvereto,
in Toscana rivelando alcuni aneddoti relativi
Sud. L’entusiasmo del pubblico era tangibile,
ascoltava rapito l’avvicendarsi delle cronache
concernenti i cantieri da lui condotti;
gli intervenuti rimarcavano le sue avvincenti
descrizioni con applausi scroscianti pieni di
calore e gratitudine.
Lugano. In fase conclusiva, l’architetto Botta,
a domande tecniche e a curiosità, infine
Master of design famous
guest of a conference
of architecture
Last March Porlezza had the pleasure to guest
Mario Botta, famous master of international
architecture. In the exceptional location of the
showroom Selva Arredamenti photographers
and journalists among sofas, cushions and pieces
of furniture had the chance to know Botta
and to talk with him about his project philosophy
of some of his works. Brillant and open,
Botta had words of appreciation for the magazine
Magic Lake, in 2007 it was published an
exclusive interview of him. Later on, a selected
number of guests knew the master, in a convivial
situation at the restaurant and wine bar
HCP Zero. Botta improvised sketches of fantastic
architectures, autographs and dedications
on the reprint of his volume“Quasi un diario”.
The evening organized by Edil G.F.P. and by the
members of Amici di Como, Petazzi Costruzioni
and Selva arredamenti reached the highest
moment a the conference “Sogno nella realtà”
(Dream in reality), the most important speaker
was the architect Mario Botta, presented and
introduced by the engineer Daniele Manzolini.
The master illustrated some of his recent works
of art and he stressed his interpretation of the
space of the sacred, going from the heptagonal
church of Santo Volto in Turin to the Synagogue
in Tel Aviv. Then he told some particular aspects
about the construction of the Cantina Petra in
Suvereto, Tuscany revealing a few anecdotes
related to the development of the data processing
considering the particular needs of the customer.
The narrative path of Botta embraced
experiences in India between astonishment
and fascination of the local construction techniques,
continuing with the works in South
Korea. The enthusiasm of the public was clear,
people were listening to the succession of the
descriptions about his building sites; the public
was stressing the interesting descriptions
with thunderous applauses rich in warmth
and gratitude. Then he wanted to dedicate a
specific mention to Borromini, to his Swiss origins
and to the recognition given to the work of
the great baroque master with the realization
of the model of San Carlino in Lugano. At the
end, the architect Botta fulfilled the wish of the
public and he answered to technical questions
and curiosities and referring to the title of the
evening “Sogno nella realtà” (Dream in reality)
he expressed his personal dream…a convent
which could represent the cycle of life.
legati imprescindibilmente al nostro
territorio.
Grand Hotel Villa d’Este
Russia, dall’India all’Europa e soprattutto negli
124 125
prodotti fatti su misura.»
Dove saranno distribuiti i prodotti del
brand Villa d’Este
«I punti di distribuzione saranno individuati in
una selezione dei più prestigiosi department
stores internazionali, cominciando dall’Italia
all’interno dello stesso hotel».
Quanto Made in Como e quanto Made in
Italy nei vostri prodotti
«Prettamente Made in Como sarà la parte degli
accessori che viene dal settore serico. Vantiamo
A year ago Bruno Massa gave birth to the
idea that has given life to this ambitious
project. He was already General Director of
DAKS Simpson and today he has become
responsible for the development plan of the
brand “Villa d’Este”, he explains philosophy,
research and development of the products
of excellence that are deeply linked to our
territory. Expert in the field of fashion and
luxury, Bruno Massa has welcomed with enthusiasm
the idea of the Società Villa d’Este
and he brought an added value, made of
taste and long experience which came from
the world of fashion, to the collection of products
which are presented in 2009: from clo-
È in corso, poi,
la presentazione della linea di abbigliamento
e del luggage».
thing to perfume, from house to food.
Where did the synergy between you Villa
d’Este come from
«A year ago studies and controls were carried
out in order to understand what type of
growth the group Villa d’Este could develop.
Thanks to an international study it was
stressed that the name Villa d’Este has a very
high brand fame among elite consumers
all over the world: from Asia to Russia, from
India to Europe and above all in the United
States, where Villa d’Este means wealth and
elegance. In a time when the most important
fashion designers – Versace, Bulgari, Armani
and Moschino – are experiencing the hotellerie,
we decided to start the project of brand
extension against the mainstream: create an
extension of the products with the brand
Villa d’Este, legitimated by the presence of
a villa which contains 500 years of history
and tradition. We believe we have a famous
brand, a beautiful story to tell and this is very
important for this operation. »
In such a big market, what is the added
value of these products
«We avoid the chaotic corridors of fashion,
but we rely on life style, offering a wide range
of products of class. All the proposals will
be of the highest quality, consistent with the
image of elegance of the hotel. We will remain
anchored to a level of quality without
compromises, refusing the idea of being part
of a series of brands which use a prestigious
image to sell commercial products. Our collections
will include the essence of good
taste and luxury, reserving much attention
Where will the products of the brand Villa
d’Este be distributed
«The points of distribution will be identified
among a selection of the most prestigious
department stores in the world, first in Italy
and then in Europe and in the world, next to
specialized boutique and of course in the hotel
itself.»
How much Made in Como and how much
Made in Italy in your products
«Mainly Made in Como will be the part of the
accessories which comes from the silk industry.
We boast the collaboration with Iltex
in Como, specialized in the production of
accessories of silk and cashmere, which will
produce foulards and scarves. All the rest
will be produced not exactly in the Como
area, but in the regions of the north of Italy,
selecting companies which reach the excellence
in their sectors.»
Do you think that the brand can have a
positive effect on tourism and on the promotion
of Lake Como
«We hope that this operation can bring a
contribution in this direction. By promoting
the products with the brand Villa d’Este in
the world, we are going to tell both through
the events promoted by the local press and
through the material which will be realized
and connected to all the products, the history
of the territory and of one of its excellence.
Each product will be accompanied by a monographic
book history of the Grand Hotel
Villa d’Este and therefore of Lake Como.»
What are the stages of presentation of
the products of the collection called Villa
d’Este
«At the Salone del Mobile, in April, we will
present the collections of equipment and
accessories for the house. In autumn it’s the
turn of the products for wellbeing and personal
care, dedicated to the wellness of the
SPA in Villa d’Este, together with a first selection
of food products. In this respect, we are
working to find and understand what are the
typical products of Lake Como to include in
our offer. Then, the presentation of the clothing
line and of the luggage is ongoing.»
paralleli, all’insegna della creatività. Fulcro
delle manifestazioni sarà il moderno quartiere
fieristico di Rho, che dal 22 al 27 aprile
ospiterà “The Event”, come sono state ribattezzate
dell’entusiasmo e dell’ottimismo, nonostante
all’illuminazione. Sarà invece la 12ª volta per
il “SaloneSatellite”, palcoscenico privilegiato
per 700 giovani designer, rigorosamente under
35, in gran parte provenienti dall’estero.
L’ingresso a “The Event” è riservato agli operatori,
eccezion fatta per il “SaloneSatellite”,
aperto al pubblico ogni giorno, dalle 9.30 alle
18.30. E domenica 26 aprile tutti e quattro i
saloni spalancheranno le porte anche ai non
addetti ai lavori, sempre dalle 9.30 alle 18.30
(www.cosmit.it).
eventi collaterali organizzati in collaborazione
disposizione Palazzo Reale, prestigiosa sede
espositiva a due passi dal Duomo. Dal 22
aprile al 21 giugno lo storico edificio ospiterà
la mostra “Magnificenza e Progetto. Cinquecento
arredi moderni e antichi. La luce sarà invece
la protagonista dell’installazione dell’artista
britannico Cerith Wyn Evans, dal titolo “IN-
VOCATION (I call your image to mind)”, che
nello stesso periodo avrà come sfondo il cortile
di Palazzo Reale.
with eyes wide open to future trends. Hand
be setting up a miriad of parallel events with a
creative slant for the occasion. Playing a pivotal
role in the exhibition will be the modern fair
complex of Rho which from 22nd to 27th April
will be hosting ‘The Event’, as the four shows
criss-crossing more than 200,000 sq m of Fiera
Milano’s futuristic display areas have been renamed.
The ‘Salone Internazionale del Mobile’ furniture
fair now in its 48th edition has over the
years been joined by the ‘Euroluce’ light fair,
the ‘Salone Internazionale del Complemento
Arredo’ furnishings accessories fair and the ‘SaloneSatellite’.
So there’s a mix of options which last year attracted
more than 348,000 operators from 160
different countries, and which will shortly see
2,500 exhibitors manning the stands.
“In this period of recession there’s an imporatant
component determined by
the climate of no confidence,” points out Carlo
Goglielmi the president of Cosmit (the fair consortium
which has been organising the event in
collaboration with Federlegno- Arredo). “Firms
need to invest strongly in positive communication
to show the effort being taken to be innovative
in terms of products and processes.
For the first time we’re faced with the problem
of not just getting through the recession but
also getting this across on the market place.”
For this reason too the product range at ‘Salone
del Mobile’ and at the 23rd edition of ‘Salone
del Complemento d’Arredo’ will be wide and
varied, with an exhaustive display of home furnishing
both regarding types – from one-piece
to modular – and styles – from classic to design,
from modern to new trend. Rich too will be the
shop-window on offer at the 25th edition of
‘Euroluce’, the lighting exhibition.
It’s the 12th time on the other hand for ‘SaloneSatellite’
where 700 mostly foreign under
35-year-old designers will enjoy the privilege of
being centre stage.
Admission to ‘The Event’ is restricted to sector
operators, except for ‘SaloneSatellite’ which
will also be open to the public everyday from
9.30am - 6.30pm. And on Sunday 26th April
all 4 exhibitions will open their doors to the
general public from 9.30am - 6.30pm (www.
Ascontex Promozioni e Consorzio Tendaggio
Italiano.
La presentazione dell’evento è stata organizzata
a Milano nella Sala Cenacolo del Museo
della Scienza e della Tecnica Leonardo da
Vinci.
consigliere Mauro Cavelli: «La nostra posizione
tessile-innovazione.
From 6th to 8th May Villa Erba in Cernobbio
will be hosting the 17th edition of Proposte,
the world preview of furnishing and curtaining
fabrics organised by Ascontex Promozioni and
Consorzio Tendaggio Italiano.
The presentation of the event was held in Milan
in the Sala Cenacolo of the Leonardo da Vinci
Museum. “The choice of a place devoted to science
and culture is an endorsement of the fact
that Proposte is based on aspects of art and history
which have always been part of the interior
textile world,” was how Proposte’s President
Piero Viganò put it.
To mark the occasion the Museum has made a
loom designed by Leonardo operational. Visitors
to the stands in Cernobbio’s Villa Erba will
be given the low-down on the latest ‘best of’
trends in European fabrics production.
It’s all down to the renewed wider-ranging
commitment undertaken by exhibitors to face
down the current difficulties worldwide.
The industrial strategy underpinning Proposte’s
success is based on a winning mix of innovative
textile research/development/creativity/ design,
by constantly monitoring world markets
and focussing on Culture + Art.
On Thursday 7th May there will once more be
Como si conferma crocevia d’arte internazionale
e appuntamento fisso di un circuito
espositivo di livello europeo, con la mostra
“Chagall, Kandinsky, Malevic. Maestri
dell’Avanguardia russa”, aperta fino a luglio.
sfrutta illuminazione a fibre ottiche e stampe
su tessuti “hi tech” dell’azienda Menphis
- ottanta opere, tra oli, tempere e disegni,
provenienti dai maggiori musei e collezioni
private russe. L’evento permette di ammirare
opere dal primo decennio sino all’inizio
Kandinsky, Marc Chagall, Kazimir Malevic e
Pavel Filonov.
Filippo Tommaso Marinetti (morto proprio
20 lavori, dall’apertura in chiave “europea”
e cioè impressionista, postimpressionista e
Nabis - come in “Autoritratto” del 1910, pas-
Russian Avant-garde
Masters
at VILLA OLMO
Como confirms its position on the international
art crossroads and its periodic appointment
on the European exhibition circuit with the exhibition
‘Chagall, Kandinsky, Malevic. Russian
Avant-garde Masters’, on until July. It’s the 6th
of an exhibition project held in the nine groundfloor
halls of the historic neoclassical residence
of Villa Olmo in Via Cantoni, which has welcomed
no fewer than 400,000 visitors over 5
years from 2004 to today. The collection under
the tutelage of curators Sergio Gaddi and Evgenia
Petrova (respectively Como’s councillor for
culture and the head of Russian art museums) is
displaying – with architect Ciro Mariani’s sober
decor using fibre-optic illumination and ‘hi-tech’
fabric prints by the firm Menphis – 80 works including
oils, tempere and drawings from Russia’s
leading museums and private collections.
The event will enable you to admire works from
the first decade of the last century up until the
early 1930s, by a formidable group of painting’s
ˇ
big shots: Vasilij Kandinsky, Marc Chagall, Kazimir
Malevic and Pavel Filonov.
In the year marking the centenary of Filippo
Tommaso’s Futurism (who actually died on
the lake in Bellagio in 1944), the exhibition is a
precious opportunity to shed some light on the
period covering the rise and eventual demise
of the Historic Avant-guarde Movement, i.e. of
those movements which Gaddi asserts: “Divorce
the language of art from bourgeoise logic and
tradition, breaking free from the domineering
vision of French Impressionism to give life to the
formal innovations of cubofuturism, the tensions
of suprematism and the rarified modernity
of abstraction, up to the realist turning point imposed
by Stalin in 1934.”
Some of the most important and fascinating
works are represented by Kandinsky’s abstract
paintings undertaken between 1915 and 1919,
such as ‘Two Ovals’ and ‘Ouverture, Violet Border’
both from 1919; or the two oils on glass
from 1918 entitled ‘The Horsewoman’ and ‘The
Horsewoman on the Hill’. Meriting lengthy
meditation for its expressive power in the use
of colour and the composition of its depiction is
the painting ‘Study of Houses on a Hill’ from the
Russian museum in St Petersburg, a work just
coming up to its 100th birthday and one of the
master’s most celebrated works.
In the case of Malevic the Como exhibition offers
you an in-depth look with over 20 works
with an initial ‘European’ slant, i.e. impressionist,
postimpressionist and Nabis – as in Self-portrait
from 1910, via cubofuturistic works to the
suprematist period culminating in the highly
renowned ‘Red Square’ of 1915. Villa Olmo features
a highly detailed reconstruction of Marc
Chagall’s room with all its furniture and furnishings
where the great Russian painter lived and
worked in his native town Vitebsk.
INTERVISTA IN ESCLUSIVA
PER MAGIC LAKE
Ama descriversi come responsabile e perennemente
nel dubbio della ricerca. Noi invece,
preferiamo parlare semplicemente di un
grande artista.
JOURNEY
Ercole Pignatelli is not just an artist… he is a
great artist. Eclectic, charismatic and always ready
to joke. He was born in Lecce in 1935 and he
moved to Milan in 1953. Painter of international
fame, curious and provocative, he loves to draw
with his heart, his mind and his instinct. When
he creates, he likes listening to Vivaldi, Mozart,
Bartok. . Pignatelli met and collaborated
with important artists: Salvatore Quasimodo,
Ugo Mulas, Milena Milani, Lucio Fontana,
Piero Manzoni. Pignatelli lives in Milan, but
he also has a house in Garzola…. Do you have an unfulfilled
Franco Soldaini, oggi direttore dell’Istituto
discussione.
mi destina a Castelfusano. Lì ho il primo
contatto con Bellagio grazie all’incontro con
il Sig. Vignati, direttore dell’albergo e originario
proprio di quel luogo, al tempo a me
sconosciuto. Esattamente dieci anni dopo,
scuola alberghiera d’Italia, proprio
a Bellagio.
dove conosco mia moglie. A Bellagio ho fatto
e straordinaria bravura, e Aldo Restelli,
un concierge, un personaggio incredibile,
154 155
“tocc”. Arrivato come ospite in questa casa,
assisto ad un rito sconosciuto ed affascinante:
tre uomini muscolosi alle prese con un
paiolo messo sui carboni accesi, dove cuocevano
polenta e formaggio.
e i costumi locali.»
oltre a italiano, storia e geografia, materie
scientifiche. Da parte nostra, è necessario,
per essere buoni insegnanti, dimostrare
fiducia nei giovani, rappresentare per loro
un esempio, guadagnandone il rispetto. Ci
Brera. Vuole spiegare i motivi «Gianni Brera
era un grande enogastronomo, un amico, un
uomo di una cultura immensa. Ci siamo conosciuti
legata all’industria serica, al commercio. Negli
risorse paesaggistiche, storiche, gastronomiche,
Senza guardare troppo lontano, basterebbe
turistica. Altre regioni italiane fanno di
cordialità, accoglienza, disponibilità un vero
must. Senza questi ingredienti faremo poca
strada.»
FRANCO SOLDAINI
For 50 years
the MASTER
of taste
“The contradiction is the nature of a man, who
thinks he is generally intelligent”. This is the
motto that follows Franco Soldaini in his job. A
man of exceptional class, who works with passion
and loves to challenge.
Tell us how you reached the shores of our lake…
«In April 1959, the Ente Nazionale Addestramento
Lavoratori del Commercio (National Boby for
Trade Training) sent me to Castelfusano. There
I had my first contact with Bellagio, thanks to
the meeting with Mr Vignati, manager of the
hotel and born there, actually that place was
unknown for me. After 10 years, in April 1969, I
came and run the most important hotel school
in Italy, which was located in Bellagio.»
What was your first impact with our territory
«During the season in Bellagio, I felt in love with
the lake and I decided I couldn’t leave it. I remember
the friendship of the inhabitants and
their great availability. I had proof of that when
I got to Bellagio and I was invited by people of
my age to eat a particular dish I had never tried,
I was actually concentrated on international
food and refined dishes, that dish was: ul tocc
(a polenta dish). From that occasion, I developed
the desire to go back to the local tradition: I
sent my staff to the food festival in the villages,
so that they could create extraordinary recipe
books.»
50 years of professional training. What
does it mean to you to “train” young people
«Professional training is not just a technique to
acquire, but it also includes good manners and
the ability to interact with other people. It is also
important to teach young people that without
a cultural background, you don’t go anywhere:
not just Foreign Languages are important, but
also Italian, History, Geography and Scientific
Subject. To be good teachers, for us it is important
to place our trust in young people, to give
them an example, to have their respect. They
need love, it is a big word, sometime people
abuse of it and misunderstand, but it means to
care of people and of their future.»
The school you run at the moment has the
name of a great person of our time, Gianni
Brera. What is the reason of this choice
«Gianni Brera was a very good food-and-wine
connoisseur, a friend, a man of a immense culture.
We met at the Casnati, in front of a dish
with pasta and beans. Gianni could transmit
fear to the people who didn’t know him, but
he could give a lot. He was a generous man: I
couldn’t remember he never gave to his table
companions the possibility to pay for him. A
gentleman, with lot of charme.»
Como tourist city. Do you think this desire
could turn into reality
«The problem we have in Como is to be able to
work as a team to reach a goal. But it is important
to ask ourselves: Does Como really want to
be a tourist city Como is not “trained” in this
respect, because the city has always be connected
to the silk industry, to the trade. In the last
few years it was discovered that Como is reach
in landscape, historic and food resources, but
we are not used to rely on tourism.»
intorno a Piero Collina, l’anima e l’artefice
della Famiglia Comasca. Fra le dodici
c’era anche Piercesare Bordoli, l’attuale presidente.
Il gruppo, poco alla volta è cresciuto,
ora i soci, sono circa mille. Il nome Famiglia
Comasca, è stato scelto proprio da Collina
per identificare un concetto di unione, nucleo,
rapporto.
bella famiglia. Profondi e soprattutto “Made
frasi: custodire, difendere, ravvivare, tramandare
i valori testimoniati dalla gente comasca
nel linguaggio, nei costumi, nella storia civile
e religiosa, nella letteratura, nell’arte, nelle
scienze e nelle attività economiche. Valorizzare
all’allora Banco Lariano in piazza Cavour,
uomo generoso, altruista e dinamico con
parecchie passioni tra cui la fotografia.

Stefania Bini, stylist from Como, born in 1962.
Since she was a child, she “breathed” the air of
fabrics, colours and patterns.«Everything started
by chance – explains Stefania Bini – it was
natural to me to start working in this sector.
I started in 1985 with a small collection of bathing
suits». Stefania Bini is the daughter of Sergio
Bini, owner of the textile industry Tessitura
Serica Bini. Up to the middle of the ‘80ies it was
a leading company for creativity and quality at
international level. Not just bathing suits, Stefania
was involved in an ambitious project, going
back to the fabrics of her father Sergio. «I love
everything which turns around fabrics and scale
models, so I decided to express my creativity,
representing an old collection of refined dresses
with ‘60ies and ‘70ies patterns. The sampling
was created almost for fun in two months and it
captured the attention of the experts, who invited
me at “Milano Collezioni”. On this occasion,
I had the chance to take part into the event: “Il
Touch”, where I signed a contract for the sale of
the collection in one of the most qualified show
Colour, fabrics, favourite designer, what and
«I like all stretch fabrics in general, my favourite
colours are green and the Provencal blue even
if, in the last few years, I was fascinated by lilac
and violet in all their nuances. The favourite
designer I don’t know, in general I like French
designers very much…»
The dynamic mind of Stefania never stops.
Subject: animals! «The idea to create pendants
and unusual jewels – explains Stefania – was
born last year under the sunshades, while I was
spending my holiday with a friend who has an
historic jewelry shop on the Ponte Vecchio in
Florence. I love animals, especially dogs, I proposed
her to produce a small collection: bracelets,
pendants, necklace with the shape of dogs,
small cats; now they are sold in her shops. In our
area, you can find them in Cernobbio at Exante.
I hope I can make a contract with an important
dream «Stop working to devote myself to
a non-profit project. I have many in my mind,
but I don’t even dare to talk about them….».
Stefania Bini, stilista comasca, classe 1962,
naturale per me a vent’anni iniziare a lavorare
ruota intorno a stoffe e bozzetti; ho deciso
“Milano Collezioni”. In quest’occasione, ho
Colore, stoffe, stilista preferito, cosa e chi
mi piacciono molto i francesi..»
Ponte Vecchio a Firenze. Io amo molto gli
animali, i cani in particolare e le ho proposto
di produrre insieme una piccola collezione:
bracciali, ciondoli, girocolli con la sagoma di
cani di razza, meticci e gattini; attualmente in
vendita nel suo negozio. Nella nostra zona, si
possono trovare invece a Cernobbio da Exante.
Spero in breve di concludere un contratto
con una grossa agenzia distributiva».
Ha un sogno nel cassetto
«Smettere di lavorare per dedicarmi a qualche
progetto no profit. Ne ho in mente molti
ma non oso ancora nemmeno parlarne per
scaramanzia…»
Il VELARIO
è di scena
Un’opera d’arte
torna a splendere
Pliny the Older, admiral of the Roman fleet, to study the
phenomenon, he has poised.
Bisognava agire,
fare qualcosa…».
CAYENNE DIESEL
L’ ULTIMA NOVITA’
IN CASA PORSCHE
Lungo lago, piazza Cavour e via Plinio. Stupiti
ATI (Associazione Temporanea d’Impresa):
Rossella Bernasconi, Erminia Affetti e Leonardo
Camporini.
Il gruppo doveva dare funzionalità al velario,
ossia permettere di poterlo utilizzare come
sipario di scena: alzarlo e abbassarlo. Si è
dovuto pensare quindi a come ridare consistenza
Diverse figure professionali sono state coinvolte
Daniele
Pescarmona della Soprintendenza di Milano,
le restauratrici Sivia Bianchi, Ivana Lunardi,
Francesca Rigamonti, Gabriella Rossati e ovviamente
il velario storico prima dello spettacolo;
successo.
Il VELARIO on stage
a new shine for
A MASTERPIECE
After 40 years, the Curtain of the Teatro Sociale,
regains its ancient splendor.
Francesco Peronese, notary and president of
the Society of the upper tier box holders, tells us
the details of this operation.
«The curtain –explains Peronese – is contemporary
of the realization of the Teatro Sociale in
1813, it is a pictorial work of art on canvas of 140
mq, made by the painter Alessandro Sanquirico
at the beginning of the 19th century and according
to what was described by Tacitus together
with Pliny the Younger, it represents the death
of Pliny the Older during the eruption of the Vesuvius
in 79 A.C.
After 40 years, the curtain couldn’t resist for
longer, abandoned and wrapped in a corner
of the Teatro Sociale. The work of restoration
on the curtain was studied and made by three
restorers, who joined for the occasion under a
ATI (Tempory Enterprise Association). This important
project started in 2006. The costs are
about 250 thousand Euro, 104 thousand Euro
were allocated by the Lombardy region and by
the Como Municipality, for one year we had the
gym Sinigaglia at disposal for free, so that the
restoration could be made».
Finally now the Curtain is staged!
TERRITORIO
Giornata
del Verde
Pulito
Insieme
per difendere
l’ambiente
di Andrea Bambace e Franco Binaghi
La “Giornata del Verde Pulito” rappresenta
forse una delle più “antiche” iniziative pubbliche
di sensibilizzazione e coinvolgimento
dei cittadini nella tutela e salvaguardia
dell’ambiente. La manifestazione venne infatti
istituita oltre dieci anni fa dalla Regione
Lombardia.
dell’iniziativa.
L’assessore provinciale all’Ecologia, Paolo Mascetti,
evidenzia che, nel corso degli anni, le
adesioni spontanee sono sempre cresciute a
riprova dell’incrementata sensibilità ambientale
delle amministrazioni locali, che vedono
nella “Giornata del Verde Pulito” un’occasione,
non solo per valorizzare il proprio territorio,
ma anche per proporre un’attività concreta
di volontariato alla cittadinanza che spesso
risponde in modo entusiastico.
aree verdi.
quest’anno siano state riproposte le “Giornate”
a carattere transfrontaliero, a dimostrazione
The ‘Clean Green Day’ is probably one of
the ‘oldest’ local authority initiatives to
raise awareness and involve townspeople
in the tutelage and protection of the environment.
The event was in fact inaugurated
over 10 years ago by the Region of
Lombardy. On a spring day chosen each
year by the Region, participating municipalities
involve individual citizens and
associations in voluntary activities such
as clearing up rubbish resulting from flytipping,
and the maintenance and restoration
of council park areas and woodlands.
The Provincial Councillor for Ecology
Paolo Mascetti points out that over the
years unsolicited participation has grown
constantly, added proof of increased environmental
awareness on the part of local
authorities who view ‘Clean Green Day’
not only as an occasion for local area regeneration,
but also as a way to encourage
concrete voluntary action on the part
of townsfolk who generally respond with
great enthusiasm.
Recent editions have seen the participation
of more than 80 municipalities and
have even crossed the boarder; starting
last year the ‘Comunità di Lavoro Regio
Insubrica’ jointly with the Province of
Como organised an Italo-Swiss edition of
the event involving various local authorities
in Ticino.
Unione Commercianti Lecchesi, Giandomenico
Frigerio, e all’Assessore del Commercio
di Lecco con delega all’Expo 2015, moderatore
della serata Fabio Dadati, Segretario generale
dell’associazione “Futuro Italia”.
centro lecchese.
Il turismo dunque quale risorsa da riscoprire
e valorizzare per la terra manzoniana, ma
per fare ciò spiega Daniele Brunati occorre
una sinergia propositiva, o meglio un sistema
sinergico tra soggetti pubblici e privati,
costruito su una ripartizione delle capacità
e delle responsabilità, dove l’imprenditoria
e la vocazione turistica del privato, incontra
l’apertura delle istituzioni locali, in una
comunione di vedute sugli obiettivi da raggiungere.
Portando proprio come esempio
proposals”
“Tourism and Trade ideas and proposals to live
Lecco all year” this is the title of the meeting
held in the area “Openspace 3.0” in Lecco on
19th February. Daniele Brunati was invited as a
speaker, he publishes the magazine Magic Lake,
organizes events and created the Consorzio
Como Turistica; the other speakers were Giandomenico
Frigerio, president of the Pubblici
Servizi Unione Commercianti Lecchesi and the
Councillor of Commercio in Lecco with proxy to
the Expo 2015, Fabio Dadati was the moderator
of the evening as general Secretary of the association
“Futuro Italia”. The conversations were
all about tourism in the city of Lecco, which was
also explained with the accounts of traders in
the centre of Lecco. Tourism is a resource to rediscover
and to invest on, but to do so – explains
Daniele Brunati – we need a propositional synergy,
or rather a synergistic system between
public and private structures, built on a division
of abilities and responsibilities, where the entrepreneurial
spirit and the tourist vocation of the
private meet the opening of the local institutions,
creating a common view on the goals to
reach. The example is the event which was held
in Como for the first time 16 years ago: Como
Città dei Balocchi, Daniele Brunati reveals the
first step to transform an idea into an important
event organized by a new-born private
association. With enthusiasm and boldness the
association presented a concrete project to the
Municipality of Como, Province of Como and
Lombardy Region and now it has turned to be
an instrument to have a tourist flow out of the
regular tourist season. Daniele Brunati ends his
contribution with a proposal: to develop a wide
project with the combination of the province
of Como and the province of Lecco to meet
the tourist needs and to increase the number
of tourists, at the same time it is important to
attract as many tourists as possible and to create
a modern and dynamic network, in order to
supply high quality services.
Inutile girarci in giro. Damiani Italia Challenge,
Louis Vuitton Pacific Series.
Zelanda, c’erano praticamente tutti i reduci
dell’America’s Cup - oltre a qualche debuttante
sacri” della vela come Team New Zealand,
vincitore su Alinghi detentore della Coppa
America, e Bmw Oracle, si è piazzato proprio
Italia. Quel team che in qualche modo
proprio da queste colonne avevamo “spinto”
con la forza dell’entusiasmo andando a
gonfiare simbolicamente le vele verso un’avventura
tanto incredibile quanto fantastica.
avventura neozelandese portando tanto in
In primo luogo Giovanni Maspero
Cecchetti e Vasco Vascotto (skipper e tattico)
Some images of the victory
tere Team New Zealand in casa propria è un
biglietto da visita non indifferente: “Questo
è vero – prosegue Maspero - . Battere i kiwi
Per me
“Ecco, quella per me – puntualizza subito Maspero
moltissimo. A livello manageriale, di
organizzazione e gestione del gruppo, anche
sotto l’aspetto psicologico.
Per capire certi eventi bisogna proprio viverli
in diretta, è difficile spiegarlo a parole. Di
certo la tensione è altissima e l’adrenalina ti
resta in circolo 24 ore su 24. Forse l’unica cosa
diverse, cervelli diversi e quant’altro.
“Joe” Maspero “Fly”
the surprise of
Louis Vuitton
Pacific Series
Damiani Italia Challenge, the sailing team
born on Lake Como from the great passion of
Giovanni Maspero from Como, was the surprise
of the Louis Vuitton Pacific Series in Auckland,
New Zealand, with all the veterans of the America’s
Cup. Fourth place behind Team New Zealand,
Alinghi and Bmw Oracle.
All the compliments go to those who have believed
in this adventure in New Zealand, giving
such an importance to Lake Como in the world
of sailing. First of all Giovanni Maspero, together
with Francesco Bruni (helmsman) e Joe Fly
Sailing Team is the soul of the project –shared
with Dabliu Sail Projet of Andrea Cecchetti and
Vasco Vascotto (skipper e tactical member) –
which led to Italia Challenge.
It was a positive experience – says Maspero –
we cannot deny that we are satisfied with the
result. A fourth place was unthinkable on the
eve. But it was not easy. Such an experience
does not end in itself and Maspero, as a manager
but also as a sailor, knows it well: “I do not
deny. I learned a lot from this experience, not
just from the management and group organization
point of view, but also from the psychological
point of view”.
However Giovanni Maspero and Canottieri
Lecco are beginning the most difficult route,
the “match of life”, the one which has to take
them to the America’s Cup, with the collection
of the necessary resources in order continue our
dream and to let people dream our wonderful
Championship
(timoniere), Francesco Bruni (tattico), Matteo
Auguadro (prodiere), Alberto Bolzan (randista),
Andrea Felci (stratega), Andrea Bussani e
Pierluigi De Felice (tailer), Andrea Caracci (navigatore),
Francesco Coari (albero) e Matteo
De Luca (drizzista).
Joe Fly’s TRIUMPH
Joe Fly Sailing Team of Giovanni Maspero
started the year 2009 in a wonderful way. In
the crystal-clear water of Miami, in the category
Farr 40, Joe Fly won the prestigious Acura
Grand Prix Championship, the trophy of the
crew with the best score adding the results
obtained in the yacht race Key West – made in
January with the second Joe Fly – to the ones of
Miami, where the tight group of Giovanni Maspero
at the rudder got the third place.
In the Acura Grand Prix Championship Joe Fly it
left even Mascalzone Latino behind, that is the
World Champion of the category Farr 40.
An exciting victory to share with the whole
team, which is: Giovanni Maspero (steersman),
Francesco Bruni (tactics man), Matteo Auguadro
(bowman), Alberto Bolzan (mainsailman),
Andrea Felci (strategist), Andrea Bussani e Pierluigi
De Felice (tailer), Andrea Caracci (sailor),
Porsche
premia
Gianluca Roda
Soddisfazioni in pista ma non solo. Gianluca
Roda, dopo essere salito sul podio del
campionato automobilistico International
sesto, migliore italiano e unico esponente
del nostro Paese presente alla premiazione
in Germania.
trascorsi in Formula 1. E per me c’è
in Italia e in Europa.
Ford Sierra. Senza dimenticare, in tempi più
recenti, anche le affermazioni a rally storici,
un’altra grande passione del comasco.
Satisfaction on and off the track; after being on
the rostrum for the 2008 International GT Open
racing car championships, he has been given
recognition in Porsche’s German headquarters
for results achieved behind the wheel of a vehicle
of the German make.
Last year in fact Roda competed in a Porsche
997 Gt2 together with Richard Lietz: the two
got a final second place in the championship
held on major European racetracks, which Formula
1 vehicles also race on. A series for which
incidentally in 2009 a leg is planned in Qatar,
outside the Old Continent. So Gianluca Roda’s
6th place in the ‘Porsche Cup’ trophy received
recognition; this special annual classification
takes into account the worldwide results of socalled
‘private’ drivers’ in the German cars.
The driver and Como businessman came in
6th, as the best Italian and only representative
of our Country present at the award-giving
ceremony in Germany. The award was given
directly by Wendelin Wideking, the Chairman
of the Porsche AG Board of Directors, who not
only congratulated Roda on last year’s positive
results but also on those of previous seasons.
Says Roda: “It was a fantastic party with over
500 people from all over the world – including
all the drivers honoured for driving Porsche vehicles.
Among them was Jos Verstappen too,
who’s made his mark in Formula 1. Then it’s
very rewarding for me to end up in the official
company book listing drivers who’ve made it
into the special trophy classification.”
So an award based on positive results, seeing
that last year Lietz and Roda came in second
in the International Gt Open – but they nearly
hit the top spot. And they also have five wins in
their prize-list.
Nonostante il recente incidente durante una
gara in Spagna, il cowboy “comasco” vuole
tornare sulle strade del lago. Lance Armstrong,
centenario.
«Ho conosciuto Lance tramite Massimo Testa,
sulle labbra. «Nel privato era il classico texano
allegro e vivace, – ricorda Rigamonti –aveva
già ottenuto risultati importanti in quegli
Lance nelle prossime settimane.
The cowboy
is back
racing
and Como’s
on his route
Despite the recent accident during a competition
in Spain, the ‘Como’ cowboy’s back on
roads of the lake. Lance Armstrong 7 times Tour
de France winner will be setting off at the age of
37 on the Giro d’Italia centenary race. And he’s
unlikely not to pop over – even if it’s a fleeting
visit – to ‘his’ Como, the town where he lived for
quite a long time in the early 90s and where he
celebrated his world title win in 1993.
The photo immortalising that unforgettable
night is still hanging in the ‘Golosità’ ice-cream
parlour on the promenade in Como, where the
Texan champion held his World Championship
victory party. Next to that picture is Armstrong’s
yellow jersey as well, dedicated to his ‘Como in
bici’ friends.
Still stashed away in their fridge-bar is the
champ’s secret ‘doping’ fix, the ‘righello’ (ruler):
a flaky pastry sweet full of raisins, nuts and
candid fruit. Whenever Lance Armstrong used
to train on the lakeside roads a stop-off at that
bar on the promenade was an absolute ‘must’.
“I got to know Lance through Massimo Testa,
the then doctor of Armstrong’s Motorola team,”
recalls Roberto Rigamonti the proprietor of the
Golosità ice-cream parlour. “The champion
would often pop in for an ice-cream. There’s no
Como leg of the Giro d’Italia,” points out Rigamonti,
“but you never know; the Texan was really
very fond of this town and might well turn
up.” The champ’s attachment to Lake Como
comes out in a book too: ‘Lance Armstrong –
Miracle Man’ written by Pier Bergonzi and edited
by “La Gazzetta dello Sport”. And let’s not
forget his friendship with Fabio Casartelli, the
Albese cyclist tragically killed in a fall on the
limitazione».
192 28 29 193
grande amante del ciclismo, che ha voluto
testare personalmente la bontà dei prodotti
della linea NGC Action. «L’obiettivo è
ottenere un concentrato di benessere e di
completamento nutrizionale – aggiunge il
vice presidente – I nostri integratori sono
particolarmente avanzati per caratteristiche
scientifiche e utilizzo innovativo. Iniziamo
con Mapooro e Carmiooro, ma stiamo preparando
un’ampia offerta di prodotti all’avanguardia
a favore del benessere e della forma
fisica in generale, disponibili esclusivamente
in farmacia».
Mapooro è un integratore di sali minerali,
magnesio e potassio, mentre Carmiooro è un
integratore alimentare di carnosina. Il primo
è utile per ridare immediatamente energia.
Il secondo svolge invece un ruolo importante
nel regolare alcuni processi metabolici di
produzione dell’energia, coadiuvante in occasione
di prestazioni intense e di recupero
post-sforzo. E, come detto, la NGC ha deciso
di affidare il messaggio di promozione dei
suoi prodotti ai protagonisti dello sport. Tester
di Mapooro e Carmiooro sono stati grandi
ciclisti, tra cui Alessandro Ballan, Damiano
Cunego e Damiano Caruso.
NGC, inoltre, è vicina a molti team sportivi,
giovanili, segno di un’attenzione non rivolta
esclusivamente all’attività di vertice, ma
anche alla promozione del vivaio di svariate
discipline.
sport’s thirst
NGC Action is a new line of nutritional supplements
for sportsmen and women. Endorsing
the product are world cycling champions Alessandro
Ballan and Damiano Cunego.
A ‘must-have’ combination for synergy and
affinity with the first products, Mapooro and
Carmiooro – not to forget basketball, seeing
that NGC Medical is major shareholder in Pallacanestro
Cantù.
“Our objective is to obtain a concentrate of wellbeing
and nutritional supplement,” says NGC
Medical’s Vice-President Natale Bellotti.
“Our supplements are particularly advanced
for their scientific characteristics and innovative
use. We’re kicking off with Mapooro and
Carmiooro, but we’re working on a wide range
of avant-garde products to boost one’s well-being
and general fitness – only on sale in chem-
ists.” Mapooro is a mineral salts, magnesium
and potassium supplement, whereas Carmirooro
is a nutritional supplement of carnosine.
The former provides a quick energy fix. Since 8th
March (the derby date with Milan) the NGC Action
logo has been displayed on Pallacanestro
Cantù’s shirts. Then not to be forgotten are other
promotional initiatives in the world of sport
such as the partnership with the Carmiooro-
A-Style professional cycling team, and the one
connected with Marco Silva and Gianni Pina the
rallying team who for the last three years have
been up on the rostrum at the Italian Asphalt
Trophy Championships.
NGC is moreover behind many young people’s
sports teams, showing that it doesn’t just focus
on high-level events but also helps to bring on
youth in all kinds of sports.
Visini’s family and some images of the Mirabella Domus
Dimora risalente ai primi del Novecento,
Mirabella Domus è la location esclusiva di
Visini.
Mirabello. A disposizione degli ospiti il piano
nobile che, raggiungibile da un ampio scalone
che sale da un ingresso indipendente
offre stanze molto raccolte, dove eleganti finestre
sempre sull’eccellenza e sull’attenta
selezione delle materie prime. Riassumendo,
“Excellence of taste”
Villa Mirabella Domus,
VISINI’s new exclusive
Residence going back to the beginning of the
20th century, Mirabella Domus is Visini’s exclusive
location. The house situated in a wonderful
site, was planned in 1912 by architect Angelini
from Bergamo and was completed by engineer
Consonni from Milan, on behalf of an ancient
and noble Milanese family. It stands on the
right side of the first basin of the lake Como.
This rocky place, high up above the eastern
shore of the lake, has been called Mirabello for
ages. At the guests’ disposal, the main floor is
easly accessible by a wide grand staircase rising
from an independent entrance and offers very
cosy rooms, where elegant windows overlook
balconies with wrought iron banisters, from
which you can admire an incredible and unique
panoramic view, from Villa Olmo to Villa d’Este,
as far as Torno and more northwards as far as
Toriggia and Brienno. Inside the estate which is
protected by a wrought iron gate, these is a usable
garden you can reach directly from the lake
by a wide staircase. This is the new challenge by
Visini: Stefano, Corrado, and their mother Liliana
wanted to start another “adventure” which
could add another pearl to the already qualified
and prestigious “Antica Torre dei Mercanti”,
delicatessen shop, wine merchant’s, restaurant
and confectioner’s situated in via Ballerini, 9 in
the old town of Como.
So, from 2009 on, Villa Mirabella will become
the place where you can personalized you own
event planning it together with Visini’s professional
competence and style. Dinner, business
meeting, marriage or events directly organized
by Visini will give you the opportunity to taste
not only the modern cuisine, made of tradition
and typicalness of an Italian cuisine which as
been realized always staking on the excellence
and on the careful selection of raw materials.
In brief: Villa Mirabelle will be the place where
the Visinis mean to express all their potentiality
dwelling which is unique for its reserve, ospitality
and good cuisine.
Hotel METROPOLE e
Ristorante IMBARCADERO:
passioni in riva al Lago
Hotel Metropole
and Ristorante
Imbarcadero:
passions
on the lake shore
È ancora in forma splendente. Situato in riva
d’affari.
Curioso e interessante il passato di questo
storico Hotel. Nato a metà dell’ottocento
come “Pension Suisse”, di proprietà della famiglia
Ghilardi, verso la fine del secolo, viene
dato in affitto e poi venduto ad Angelo Cassani
ed alla sua giovane sposa svizzera, Rosa
Danioth. Alla prematura morte del marito,
Rosa Danioth inizia un processo ambizioso
ed intelligente di sviluppo e di aggiornamento
che sarà continuato dai figli, dai nipoti e
dai pronipoti che guidano oggi l’albergo, i
cugini Roberto e Damiano Cassani.
e personaggi dello spettacolo: Renato Rascel
, Aldo Fabrizi, Peppino de Filippo, e negli anni
più recenti, Carla Fracci, Diego Abatantuono,
Silvio Orlando fino alla bellissima Micelle
Hunziker.
It is still in shining form. Located on the lake shore
in the central Piazza Cavour, the Metropole
Suisse in Como offers a high level hospitality
both to the tourist and to the business traveler.
The past of this historical hotel is curious and
interesting. Born in the middle of 19th century
with the name “Pension Suisse”, the owner was
the family Ghilardi, at the end of the 19th century
it was rent and then sold to Angelo Cassani
and his young Swiss bride, Rosa Danioth. With
the premature death of her husband, Rosa Danioth
began an ambitious and intelligent process
to develop and update what her sons, her
grandchildren and great-grandchildren would
have continued, today the owner are the cousins
Roberto and Damiano Cassani.
From the years after the war, its rooms hosted
some of the most important names of that time:
Re Faruk, Princess Furstemberg, the royal family
of Denmark and the famous people of the show
business: Renato Rascel, Aldo Fabrizi, Peppino
de Filippo, in recent years: Carla Fracci, Diego
Abatantuono, Silvio Orlando and the beautiful
Michelle Hunziker. The constant efforts towards
the renovation in the respect of tradition are
the main features of the entrepreneurial style
of the family, who made the Metropole Suisse
one of the most updated, efficient and dynamic
hotels of the area of Lake Como, without losing
the charm of its period architectures.
The hotel building is under the restrictions of
Fine Arts. Indeed the ground floor and the first
floor with the beautiful 19th century façade
have been subject to an intervention of embellishment
made by Terragni, the rationalist
architect from Como. In 2004 there was the
centenary of his birth.
From the hall of the hotel there is the direct access
to the new Restaurant Imbarcadero, completely
renovated, with new management. It
offers a gastronomic proposal which aims at
focusing on the local products, presented in an
elegant and exclusive way, the atmosphere is
refined and it directly overlooks the lake.
EUPILI CAFÈ
…da gustare e ricordare
Eupili Cafè…
to taste and
to remember!
On Lake Pusiano, Eupili Cafè is a new reality to
be discovered but especially to taste. Eupili Cafè
is owned by Andrea Marchini and Giulio Beretta.
It is a pastry, cafeteria, ice cream and lounge bar
where you can have lunch and above all it is a
place which has several types of customers. Each
moment spent at the Eupili Cafè is magic; in the
morning you can taste seven types of croissant
together with the great cafeteria, characterized
by the use of Illy Caffè and the programme “Artisti
del gusto” (Artists of the taste), it helps people
start the day in a positive way. At midday the
cafè turns into a restaurant with express food:
quality proposals according to the season, with
Ogni momento all’Eupili Cafè è
positivo. A mezzogiorno il locale, si trasforma
in un ristorante con cucina Express: piatti
sempre di qualità, legati alla stagionalità, con
un ottimo rapporto qualità-prezzo. Il ristorante
propone tutti i giorni uno o più primi,
l’Hamburgher Eupili, servito con pane fatto
in casa e ricche insalate. Il menù viene integrato
e adeguato stagionalmente, ad esempio,
questo inverno, Andrea e Giulio, hanno
proposto, prendendo spunto dalla tradizione
lombarda, bolliti misti, cazzola, stinchi, ossibuchi,
pasta e fagioli. Da non perdere i dessert
per fine pranzo. Il tutto in un ambiente
soft.
cognac rinomati. L’ambiente elegante che
richiama una “club house”, sapientemente
mixato ad un gusto moderno, può essere
l’ambiente ideale per riunioni d’affari e private.
Merita una visita il déhors, un allestimento
curato nei particolari e nei dettagli permette
di ammirare la splendida vista sul romantico
lago di Pusiano. Un’altra particolarità di Eupili
Cafè, sono i gelati, che Andrea Marchini
prepara personalmente con soli ingredienti
naturali e con metodo artigianale. Il risulato è
un gelato magro, dal gusto “Vintage”, digeribile
senza l’aggiunta di grassi vegetali. Eupili
Cafè…da gustare e ricordare!
a very good price to quality ratio. Every day the
restaurant proposes one or more first courses,
the Hamburgher Eupili, served with home bread
and rich salads. The menu is seasonally changed
and modified, for example this winter Andrea
and Giulio, inspired by the Lombardy tradition,
proposed boiled meats, the typical cazzola,
shin of veal containing marrowbone, pasta and
beans. Highlights are the desserts at the end of
the lunch. All in a soft environment. In the afternoon,
in a nice atmosphere, you can taste tea,
herbal teas and cafeteria, with home-made pastry
by a famous Milanese pasty chef. But particularly
after dinner Eupili Lounge expresses its
potentials up to the top, with a selection of Lombardy
wines, fruit of a long search, together with
important champagne labels. Wide selection of
rhum, cognac, whisky and vodka. High selection
of exclusive beers, both on draught and in
bottle, some of them are hard to find even in the
most famous pubs. Thanks to the system of lighting
designed by the famous light designer Matteo
Fiore, at the Eupili Cafè you can find a magic
atmosphere and this is the reason why just in
seven months it has become a cult among the
trend cafè. To mention is the cigar corner, a private
room for smokers which offers tastings of
original “Havana” Cuban cigars, combined with
important cognac. The elegant environment
recalls a “club house”, widely mixed with a modern
taste, it is the ideal place for business and
private meetings. The déhors deserves a visit, a
fitting with a particular attention to the beautiful
view of Lake Pusiano. Another distinctive feature
of Eupili Cafè are the ice creams, which are
personally prepared with natural ingredients
and a traditional method by Andrea Marchini.
The result is a soft ice cream, with a “Vintage” taste,
without the addition of vegetable fats. Eupili
siamo passati attraverso numerose
frequentemente stranieri o esotici in cambio
tradizioni agroalimentari, possono svolgere
un ruolo importante a livello internazionale,
sicuramente maggiormente significativo rispetto
tempo, formaggi, salumi, ortaggi, frutta e
vino – salvato dall’indiscriminato uso delle
barrique – hanno assunto funzioni in grado
non solo di comunicare cultura materiale,
ma anche emozioni, gusto, capaci anche di
generare valore nei territori di produzione,
riscoprendone le radici e la cultura contadina,
riuscendo persino a trasformare in mete
turistiche luoghi e territori altrimenti carenti
palettina, chiamata ironicamente “agente
delle tasse” o “esattore”.
Over the last thirty years food and drink have
gone through various phases: from the ‘Nouvelle
Cuisine’ of the 80s, to the ‘Fusion’ of the 90s
– a spin-off of globalisation in all its aspects;
now we’re in the ‘Nueva Nouvelle Cuisine’ era.
But such international fads have not succeeded
in contaminating good old-fashioned Italian
fare. So by way of reinstating and singing the
paises of locally sourced cookery I give you
OSSOBUCO ALLA MILANESE
From ‘oss bus’ in Milan dialect: the very name
of the dish, obtained from slicing the shank (or
shin-bone) – but only from a calf’s hind quarters
– is indicative of the importance of the
bone, and even more so of the cavity, for the
success of this dish.
Preparazione
parte e dall’altra.
Cuocerli a fuoco basso e a recipiente coperto, bagnandoli
o fagiolini.
OSSOBUCO ALLA MILANESE
(Giancarlo Morelli, ‘Osteria del Pomiroeu’ – Seregno)
Ingredients to serve 6
2kg of Ossobuco (6 pieces) of veal cut fairly high up from a veal
shin-bone
but only using the hind quarters
100g of butter
Parsely a.r.
White wine a.r.
Flour a.r.
1 lemon
Garlic, shallot, salt and
pepper to taste
What to do
Brown a clove of garlic (to be removed later) in butter in a wide
pan; dust the ossibuchi with flour and brown them in the butter
on both sides.
Let them simmer with the lid on, basting them every so often
with teaspoons of white wine or stock; turn over from time to
time and season appropriately.
Prepare the ‘gremolada’: chop up the parsely together with half
a clove of garlic and a scraping of lemon zest.
About 10 minutes before taking the pan off the heat, sprinkle
this seasoning onto the ossibuchi. Place them in a serving dish
and pour the gravy from the cooking over them. This dish is
excellent with ‘risotto alla milanese’, mashed potato or maize
polenta, and is a 1-course meal in its own right; as a 2ndcourse,
serve with peas or beans.
