LE TORRI - THE TOWERS - LES TORRES
TORRE DI SAN GIOVANNI
Già denominata Torre di Mezzo, rispondeva ad una rilevante funzione
strategico-militare e difensiva, permettendo un rapido collegamento, tramite
cortine, con la torre del Portal e con quella dell’ Esperó Reial (più conosciuta
come Torre di Sulis). Situata a ridosso dell’imponente forte di Montalban, la
massiccia costruzione presenta una volta con nervature a raggiera.
The Torre di San Giovanni also called the Torre di Mezzo (The Middle
Tower) due to its important strategic and defensive military function. This
tower, situated between the Torre di Porta Terra and Esperó Reial (more
commonly called Torre Sulis, Sulis Tower), allowed for quick passage between
the other two towers through the use of curtains.
This massive building has a radial ribbed vault and is located close to the
imposing Montalban outpost.
Avisada també Torre de Mig, teniva una important funció estrategicomilitar
i defensiva, ja que permitiva un ràpid col·legament, mediant muralles,
amb la torre del Portal i amb aquella de l’Esperó Reial. Situada a redós de
l’imponent Fort de Montalbà, la massissa construcció presenta una bòveda
a cúpula amb nervadures radials.
