that you want to move during winter. Remember
to keep watering those shrubs that are
now standing with a trench dug around its
base. Also remember that your lawn still needs
water and feeding through winter. We are
lucky in Tzaneen that we are mostly frost free
and therefore our lawns could remain a beautiful
feature throughout the year.
Start planning new beds and focal points
now. Your general garden chores will slow
down through winter and this is the perfect
opportunity to re-do some old beds and give
new life to an old garden.

Q: When is the best time to prune back
creeping plants like Bougainvilleas, Jasmine
and Clerodendrum and when must they be
fertilized?
A: Creepers that flower on young, fresh wood
can be pruned immediately after flowering.
This will force them to flush again and often
produce another set of flowers. Creepers that
flower on old wood can be pruned regularly,
especially if you want to contain them to a
specific area. Creepers are often neglected
garden plants and do need a regular feeding. A
monthly feeding of approximately 10 grams of
2:3:2 per mature plant will work wonders. This
can be scaled down to 5 grams during May,
June and July. Always water the fertilizer into
the ground after application.
