■ IMBA learns how to dance salsa
Rhythm is a dancer!
On the 7th of January 2005, IMBA Leuven organized a Salsa Initiation where students both from the
fulltime and the part-time MBA’s in Leuven were invited to. The idea behind was on the one hand,
to learn the basic principles of this hot Latino dance that absorbs characteristics of rhythm and
blues, jazz and rock, and on the other hand, make a lot of fun of course with the Vlerick classmates. The
event took place in the Rumba, a well-known place among Leuven students and a genuine dance temple.
As female students are a bit less numerous than the male variety in IMBA and as you need couples to be
able to dance salsa, the student’s partners were also invited to the Salsa Initiation. In total, there were
around 25 couples showing up in the Rumba & Co disco in Leuven, a 10 minutes walk from the Leuven
campus and 50 metres away from Leuven’s vibrant Old Market that is - according to student and other
legends - the longest bar of the civilized world. Under the professional guidance of Joao ‘El maestro’ from salsaflash.com, the people were initiated into the
secrets of Salsa and Merengue, a ballroom dance of Haitian and Dominican origin.
According to IMBA student representative Kurt Vanderlinden,‘people were having such a good time that the event lasted 2.5 hours instead of the planned
1.5 hours’. He adds that he and his colleague student representative François Lecocq ‘received very good reactions from a lot of people’. And indeed, if one
looks at the pictures of the event, they show nothing but extremely happy faces, which prove that they are having the time of their life. D.S
■ MMM follows exchange program in Madrid
Marketing students dynamize Madrid!
Connexis news
From Saturday the 15th of January until Saturday the 22nd, the 3M students were in Madrid for an interactive marketing module with ESIC, the
Escuela Superior de Gestion Comercial y Marketing. This exchange program is new within the Master in Marketing Management and it was only
decided in October last year. In this way, it was a first try out for the marketing students as well as for the School. No need to say, the students enjoyed
their Spanish trip very much and not exclusively from an educational angle. As a matter of fact, they made a lot of fun in Europe’s probably most exciting
capital.
The bus left very early on a Saturday morning. A Virgin flight later, the 3M students landed in Madrid at noon with a summer temperature of 20 degrees!
On Saturday afternoon and Sunday, the students had a free weekend and they organized a first excursion in the Spanish capital. As from Monday, the lessons
started and the students got acquainted with the ‘Spanish way’ of teaching marketing. During the evenings, the MMM students continued their
intensive explorations of Madrid which was – of course – harsh to combine with the courses. Since the courses finished on Thursday, the students still got
plenty of time as to visit Madrid and its typical tapas bars. In addition, they went to a swinging Erasmus party and to the most famous discothèque out
there (la Capital, near the Retiro parque). They also quenched their cultural thirst by visiting some museums like el Museo de Arte Reina Sofía. At the end,
everyone was quite satisfied about the trip smoothly organized by 3M coordinator Katelijn Cornelis. D.S
