Maatschappelijke verantwoordelijkheid is een van de
competentiegebieden die het UMCG belangrijk vindt.
Dat is terug te vinden in de studie- en opleidingsprogramma’s,
maar ook in hoe het umc als kennisinstelling
naar buiten treedt. Het blijkt bijvoorbeeld uit de Medische
Publieksacademie, die het UMCG in 2008 is gestart,
maar ook uit de onderwerpen waarmee Groningen de leiding
neemt in maatschappelijke discussies. Die continue
dialoog over nieuwe denkbeelden, nieuwe visies ontwikkelen
en de discussie daarover, binnen de wetenschap en in
wisselwerking met de maatschappij: dat is het wezenskenmerk
van het wetenschappelijk bedrijf dat het UMCG is.
Social responsibility is one of the competency areas
that is important to the UMCG. This can be seen in the
courses and training programs, but also in how the UMC
presents itself as a knowledge institute. It can be seen, for
instance, in the Public Medical Academy that the UMCG
started in 2008, but also in the subjects with which Groningen
takes the lead in social debates. This continuous
dialogue with new ways of thinking, the development of
new visions and the debate about these visions, within
the scientific field and in constant interaction with society:
that is the material characteristic of the ‘scientific
business’ that is the UMCG.
