This publication gives technical and economic data referring to the calendar<br />
year <strong>1958</strong> for industrial producers and for those public supply undertakings that<br />
are owned by private firms. The technical data given for other public supply undertakings<br />
also refer to the calendar year, while the economic data refer partly to<br />
the calendar year (salaries, wages and unit value of sold electricity) and partly to<br />
the financial year July 1957 — June <strong>1958</strong> (profit and loss account and balance<br />
sheet). The statistics comprise all electricity plants owned by government (central<br />
or local). Private electricity plants with a capacity of less than 100 kW are<br />
excluded.<br />
The undertakings are classified according to the main purpose of their activity<br />
in (a) public supply undertakings and (b) industrial producers. Within these two<br />
main categories the undertakings are classified according to ownership and geographic<br />
area.<br />
