As thenumber of long-term survivors of cancer in childhood and adolescence are growing rapidly, increasedattention is being paid to the possible influences of the disease on long-term health and socialperformance. The proposed project aims at exploring the relationship between cancer in childhoodand adolescence and outcomes in adulthood in a national cohort by linking the information from theCancer Registry of Norway to information in other national registries that include data on mortality, subsequent neoplasms, medical disabilities, education, income, family status, social security benefitsand unemployment compensation. All children born in Norway during 1965-85 will be defined as ourstudy cohort, and all children and adolescents diagnosed with cancer will be identified. The cohort willbe followed from birth into adulthood by linking compulsory national databases that include the entirepopulation of Norway. The data will be analysed with various regression models that allow foradjustment for confounders. Our findings will assess the necessity of continued follow-up of long-termsurvivors of childhood and adolescent cancer and specific vulnerable patient groups, with emphasis onorgan dysfunction, subsequent malignancies and psychosocial deficits. The general aim of this project is to examine later medical and social disabilities in individualsdiagnosed with cancer in childhood and adolescence (below 25 years of age). More specifically, theproject aims at exploring the relationship between cancer in childhood and adolescence and outcomesin adulthood in a national cohort by linking the information from the Cancer Registry of Norway toinformation in other national registries that include data on subsequent health outcomes, medicaldisabilities, education, income, family status, social security benefits and unemploymentcompensation. The outcome measures will also be evaluated with regard to specific patientcharacteristics as age group, tumour topography and morphology.Disease Management - Cancer
