Handling, Mounting andDismounting Rolling BearingsFigure 10.38 shows a withdrawal sleeve of theseries AOH . . which is produced with oil holes asstandard. The connection holes and threads arelocated on the broad side face of the withdrawalsleeve.Thermo rings are slotted rings from solidaluminium with thermal insulated handles (fig.10.40) .The bore diameter of the ring is adjusted to theraceway diameter of the ring type that has to beremoved.Simple designed thermo rings do not have anintegrated heat source and thus they need to beheated by means of hot plates or similar. The required heating temperature and time isnormally determined by practical experience.Fig. 10.39Fig. 10.39 shows an adapter sleeve which isproduced with oil holes as standard. On adapter sleeves the connection of oil holesand threads is located on the narrow face side.(i.e. the lock nut is fixed).Bearings by HeatingWhen removing bearings, the heating of eitherthe bearing or the housing may ease the processsomewhat.Depending on the particularly case, heating thehousings may be of advantage. The mass removal of cylindrical roller bearinginner rings, as happens when overhaulingrailway axle box bearings, the appropriate toolsare, thermo rings, see fi g. 10.40Fig. 10.40A more advanced design of this simple butefficient tool are thermo rings that feature castintegral heating elements. To remove bearing rings using thermo rings thering surface has to be lightly oiled with a thinheat-resistant machine oil. The heated thermoring must be placed around the bearing ringand clamped with the handles. The thin-walledbearing ring will quickly accept the heat of thethermo ring.As soon as the ring expands due to thetransferred heat it becomes loose and may beremoved from its seat easily, even with heavyinterference fi ts.Normally it takes only a few seconds before ringremoval from its seat is possible.Because the simple thermo rings must to bereheated following each removal, the use of morethan one thermo rings may become necessary.www.nke.at 369
