ABSTRACT Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is defined as the involuntary loss of urine on exercitation, sneezing or coughing. Studies show the effectiveness of physiotherapy in the treatment of SUI, where the strengthening of the pelvic floor muscles assumes a fundamental role in the mechanism of continence. The study design was experimental, comparative and intentional random sampling by drawing lots, which compared the ability to contract the pelvic floor in 40 women with SUI, and 15 randomly chosen to undergo treatment with the Pelvic Floor Educator, and 25 to treatment with kynesiotherapy retraining, performing 16 sessions in each sample. The evaluation of patients was composed of a functional assessment of the pelvic floor (AFA) and by Electromyographic Biofeedback Phoenix ®. At the end of the sessions was made a statistical analysis to compare the ability to contract the pelvic muscles from start to end of treatment, comparing the results with the Pelvic floor educator retraining and the results of kynesiotherapy retraining. The research showed that the two cases obtained effectively when they evaluated the AFA, but the Pelvic Floor educator was more effective than kynesiotherapy retraining, not discarding their efficiency. Since the assessment with Electromyographic Biofeedback Phoenix ®, the two groups had effectively no statistically significant differences.
