ABSTRACT This work is a sociological study on the relations of work of doctors and nurses that works in the Family Health Strategy (FHS) that operates the population's health care based on the principles foreseen for Brazil's Unified Health System (SUS). FHS aims to promote and rearrange the health care operation for the families through health monitoring and team work. This study has the objective to understand the meanings attributed to the contents of the tasks and the sexual division of work, within gender and power dynamics in the work of doctors (men) and nurses (women) that perform in the FHS, as for the proposal of interdisciplinarity on the practices of the care in the familiar environment. To achieve this it intends to identify how gender relations between medical professionals (men) and nurses (women) are built over the meanings attributed to the contents of the tasks foreseen for the FHS. To determine if these relations demarcate hierarchizing and different practices among these professionals as for the performing of their functions and the production of knowledge. To understand how this constitutes both historically and in daily basis the subject matter of the actions of doctors and nurses within the FHS and the concepts on care, and if they are demarcated by some symbolic order related to gender that weakness the possibility of a interdisciplinary work. To analyze how the the activities are made flexible and hierarchized in daily basis of a health team, to know what kind of practices these activities express concerning the sexual division of work. To achieve this it is developed and articulated in the methodology of this work some hypotheses based on purpose that the power is part of a range of organized and hierarchized relations, it is possible then, to perceive that inlaid in the interdisciplinary discourse can exist a relation of power and subordination marked by anti-symmetrical relations of gender. The second hypothesis problematizes if the meaning of the nurse's work is part of a gender oriented reality that builds from the understanding that being a woman means one is ready for the act of "take care", in contrast of what one expects from the doctor whose task ties with knowledge. The third hypothesis is that although some contexts and requirements of work have been modified, this does not mean that the relations of power, inaqualities and naturalized conceptions on the doctors' and nurses' work do not continue to exist and actuate making it difficult interdisciplinary practice in the context of this study. The very organization of the activities in the FHS can be the neuralgic point of this relation when related to the social and sexual division of the work; and in this case, instead of modify the classic hierarchy in terms of take care, to have the knowledge and to make, it would be coexisting with practices that carry many ambiguities. The methodology was based on a qualitative nature field research consisting in interviews with 10 professionals of the FHS in the city of Curitiba and its Metropolitan Area in the period of January to March, 2008. This study is relevant to awake the reflection about the process of work in health care in the perspective of taking care and the practices and concepts that are sedimenting the FHS, placing at the disposal of Sociology the results of this analysis leading to the deepening of gender related questions.
