Internal logistics, including warehousing,
distribution, order processing control, and
supply, is only a small part of the supply
chain system
focus
S
upply Chain Management comprises
different activities in three different
levels: the strategic level, which includes
long-term demand planning; the tactical
level, including production planning; and
the operational level. Due to this complexity,
internal logistics is becoming increasingly
important in global distribution. The major
conditions for an efficient internal logistics
system include maintaining high-quality
supply, assuring short delivery time, low
product turnover costs, and few inventory
days.
An internal logistics system must also include
a number of vital and basic elements, such
as flexible and customized storage and
transportation solutions that include components
of material handling technologies and
complex integrated data exchange systems
- all adaptable to future demands. Thus,
suppliers of logistics systems will have an
increasingly important role and responsibility
in the future, ranging from planning to implementation
of storage and handling systems.
The techniques used in these systems include
using simple transportation facilities and
An ideal combination of
logistics techniques allows
implementation of organized
and efficient procedures,
safe storage of products,
easy access, and low costs
manual equipment for handling materials
stacked in racks to high-performance automated
equipment for transportation and
storage of pallets, containers, and cartons.
By combining the logistics techniques available
today, logistics suppliers can implement
organized and efficient procedures, assuring
safe storage of products, easy access, and
low costs. The return on investment is relatively
fast. This is also the case in countries
An internal logistics system
must include some vital and
basic elements, such as flexible
and customized warehousing
and transportation
solutions
with cheap labor, as attested by Stöcklin
Logistics, a Swiss company specialized in
internal logistics, present in countries all over
the world, and which has installed over 20
such systems for different market segments
in Brazil and Mexico alone. As a supplier of
systems and a manufacturer of handling and
storage equipment, Stöcklin provides systems
of all levels of complexity, comprising
warehouse management, material handling
and transportation systems, and racks,
among others.
and head of Stöcklin Logistics’ Brazilian
and Mexican subsidiaries. www.sld.ch
