A Abimci protocolou no último dia 31 de julho
petição formal junto ao Ustr (The Office Of The
United States Trade Representative) solicitando a
revisão do status e da redesignação do compensado
brasileiro de pinus dentro do sistema SGP (Sistema
Geral de Preferências), atualmente taxado em 8%.
O compensado de pinus do Brasil está excluído
desse benefício da isenção da tarifa desde 1995,
quando o país representou 55,13% do total de importações
desse produto, o que levou o governo
dos EUA a suspender o benefício.
Daquele período para cá, o volume exportado
pelo Brasil diminuiu muito devido à crise norte-
-americana. Agora, está novamente em patamares
que permitem a revisão desse status para que o
produto possa então se beneficiar com a eliminação
da taxa de importação, fator imprescindível
para o aumento das exportações brasileiras para
aquele país.
CURRENT FILINGS
On July 31 of this year, Abimci filed a formal request
with the Ustr (The Office of the United States
Trade Representative) requesting a review of the
status and reassignment of Brazilian pine plywood
within the GSP (General System of Preferences),
currently taxed at 8%.
Pine plywood from Brazil has been excluded from
that tariff exemption benefit since 1995, when Pine
plywood from Brazil represented 55.13% of total imports
of that product, which led the U.S. Government
to suspend the benefit.
From this period on, the volume exported by Brazil
has very much declined due to the crisis. Now, we’re
again at levels that allow for a review of that status
so that the product can then benefit from the elimination
of the import tax, an essential factor to the
increase in Brazilian exports to that Country.
