MEX, que hoje é integrado por 25 empresas.
DE QUE FORMA A SUSTENTABILIDADE
ESTÁ INTERFERINDO POSITIVAMENTE NA EX-
PORTAÇÃO DE MADEIRA?
O compromisso da AIMEX com a sustentabilidade
da floresta, através das suas ações e campanhas
de divulgação e valorização do manejo
florestal e da madeira sustentada, tem trazido
resultados positivos junto ao público consumidor
interno e externo. A ação mais recente é a parceria
firmada com a EMBRAPA (Empresa Brasileira de
Pesquisa Agropecuária) para conhecer em detalhes
as populações de Ipês (roxo e amarelo) nas
áreas de produção do Pará. Os resultados obtidos
serão utilizados para subsidiar índices técnicos e
seguros, que levem em conta as características de
crescimento e a taxa de recuperação da espécie,
para garantir sua manutenção e diversidade na
floresta.
COMO A AIMEX VÊ O AUMENTO DA IM-
PORTÂNCIA DO ESG NESSE SEGMENTO DO
MERCADO?
Vejo que o conceito ESG (meio ambiente, social
e governança) é irreversível. Entretanto, a empresa
tem que querer que este conceito faça parte
da sua cultura, tem que ser inerente a atividade
florestal sustentada. Apesar de ser um conceito
novo, entendo que a empresa que já possua um
certificado ambiental, onde é preciso obedecer a
padrões ambientais e sociais sem colocar o lado
econômico em risco, já se enquadra no conceito
ESG.
To continue the projects and actions aimed
at institutionally strengthening the Forest Product
Sector, in addition to setting new objectives
for the development of forest harvesting in Pará
and the Amazon, supporting sustainable production,
combating illegal activity and deforestation,
disseminating forest management, and increasingly
fostering the processing and certification
of our products with Aimex members, who now
number 25 companies.
HOW IS SUSTAINABILITY POSITIVELY
INTERFERING WITH TIMBER PRODUCT EX-
PORTS?
Aimex’s commitment to forest sustainability,
through its actions and campaigns for disseminating
and valorizing forest management
and sustainable timber products, has brought
positive results from the internal and external
consuming public. The most recent effort is the
partnership signed with the Brazilian Agricultural
Research Company (Embrapa) to survey the Ipê
populations (purple and yellow) in the State of
Pará production areas. The results will be used to
subsidize technical and accurate indexes, which
consider the species’ growth characteristics and
recovery rate, to ensure its maintenance and diversity
in the forest.
HOW DOES AIMEX SEE THE INCREASED
IMPORTANCE OF ESG IN THIS MARKET SEG-
MENT?
We see that the ESG concept is irreversible.
However, a company has to want this concept
to be part of its culture; it has to be inherent to
sustained forest activity. Despite being a new
concept, I understand that a company with an
environmental certificate, where it is necessary to
comply with environmental and social standards
without putting the economic side at risk, already
fits the ESG concept.
