COVID-19 hit the world badly!
After a successful exhibition period, the corona virus, which is called COVID-19 and affected
the whole world, led the companies to move their work systems to different platforms. Brands
affected by this continue to produce with different working models due to the global pandemic
we have been experiencing. Set aside many academicians who think that this difference will be
included in a system, we will see together how and what will change in the coming period.
We continue to work and to be the voice of the industry!
In these troubled days we live, we continue to send news and interviews of our brands and
industry to our subscribers in various parts of the world with a more devotion. Manufacturers,
dealers and wholesalers from different geographies from China to the USA, from the Middle East
to Russia will also read this issue of our magazine. We hope this troublesome period passes as
soon as possible, and as Decor Family, we wish everyone healthy and happy days.

COVID-19 salgını
mimari anlayışa
yeni bir boyut
kazandıracak
Dünyanın yaşadığı
Corona Virüs salgını mimariyi de
etkileyecek.
Geçtiğimiz aylarda ortaya çıkan ve Covid-19 adı verilen
hastalığa yol açan koronavirüs salgını, dünyanın
alışkanlıklarını değiştirecek. Bu değişimin başında ise
yaşam alanlarımız geliyor. Bu pandeminin evlerimizde
ve ofislerimizde ne gibi yeni alışkanlıklar edineceğimizi
ve neleri değiştireceğini Mimar Esra Kestirengöz ile
konuştuk.
Tüm dünyada gündem, bir pandemi haline gelen
COVID-19 salgını. Sizce bu salgın hayatımızı nasıl
etkileyecek?

Evin zaman
içinde birinci işlevi güvenlik olmuştur. Başlangıçta
kötü hava koşulları, yırtıcı hayvanlardan saklanma
yeri olarak hizmet etti. Sonra düşmanın içeri girmesini
engellemek için uzun taş kaleler inşa edildi. Bugün
insanların etkili bir biçimde sosyal izolasyon sağlayacakları
evlere ihtiyaçları var. Bu da demek oluyor
ki oda sayımızı fazlalaştırmak adına m2’ si yaşamaya
olanak vermeyen odalar oluşturulmamalı. Kentleşmeye
bakarsak son 10 yıldır küçük köylere ve şehirlere
taşındığımız için eski popülerliğini yitirmiştir
sanırım son yaşadığımız olaylardan sonra adım adım
azalacaktır. İnsanlar daha küçük, sakin ve güvenli
yaşama geçmeyi planlayacaklardır.
“Sığınak alanların belirlenmesi açık planlamalardan
daha öne çıkacak!”
İnsanlar yaşam alanlarında başka hangi alışkanlıkları
edinecek?
Hayat, deneyimlerimize baktığımızda son dönemlerde
yaşadığımız doğal olaylar depremler, yangınlar,
salgın hastalıklar hiçbir zaman olmaz ki, duygumuzu
ortadan kaldırıyor. Evlerimiz doğal ve insan yapımı
tehlikelere hazırlama arzusu artık şaşırtıcı olmuyor.
Sadece evinizin yanında garajlar inşa etmekle kalınmayacak,
aynı zamanda su depolarımız, yiyecekler ve
temel gıda ihtiyaçlarımız için kilerler, enerji konusunda
bir süre yaşamı idare ettirecek şekilde chargelarların
olabileceği alanlar, belki de doğru bir şekilde
hesaplanan yani kişi sayısına göre hazırlanan doğru
m 2 ’li sığınaklar olacak. Ayrıca son yılların yine ana
trendlerden biri olan alandan tasarruf sağlayan açık
planlara veda edeceğiz. Giriş, oturma odası, mutfak
birleşik gibi planlarda değişiklikler yapılacak. Pandemi
sonrası giriş alanları ayrılacak belki de dezenfekte
ve eve giriş izolasyonu yapılabilecek alanlar oluşturulacak
böylece ayakkabılarımız, kıyafetlerimizi ve
eşyalarımızı sokaktan yaşam alanlarımıza taşımak
yerine geniş alanda bırakıp gerekli hijyen sağlanacaktır.
Geri dönüşüme açık yaşam alanları çoğalacak.
Geri dönüşümden kastınız insanlar kendi enerjilerini
üreteceği mi?
Geleceğin binaları, yapıları her zaman savunduğum
planlanacak. Genel olarak evlerimizde güvenlik
ağı oluşturmak adına birkaç ısıtma kaynağı olacak;

Karantina dönemi boyunca hemen hemen her meslekte
evden çalışma yapılıyor ya da zorlanılıyor. Her

The COVID-19 pandemic will add
a new dimension to architectural
understanding
The Corona Virus outbreak, which the world has been experiencing,
will also affect the architecture.
The corona virus epidemic that occurs in recent months,
causes the disease called Covid-19, will change
the habits of the world. At the beginning of this change
is our living spaces. We talked to Architect Esra Kestirengöz
about what new habits and changes will take
in this pandemic in our homes and offices.
The global agenda is the COVID-19 outbreak that has
become a pandemic. How will this epidemic affect
our lives?
We are at the beginning of the end; we are looking
forward to a new start soon. Our world sends a signal
to us. It says that we need to review our habits, what
March - April 2020 • DECOR 9
Konuk Tasarımcı
we consume, and our behavior; otherwise it shows
that it cannot agree with humanity and that this relationship
will end. We begin to see the signals of this one
by one. Some are more optimistic and some are not.
However, humanity still believes that by continuing to
work in many areas, it will find strength in recovery.
All our values will change, our lives and habits will
change, and our homes, offices, restaurants, cafes,
and living spaces will change under this influence.
With this in mind, we can predict a few changes that
may occur.
“It is no longer crowded, multi-storey apartments;
individual homes - minimum contact”
Could you tell us about these change estimates in
terms of architecture?
Tall buildings were designed to organize as many people
as possible in small spaces, regardless of health
and hygiene. With this pandemic, it was understood
that it is not easy to provide hygiene in multi-storey
buildings. While we need to reduce contact, we have
to stay in touch more. By breathing the same air with
many people in the elevator, we are in very much contact
with the elevator buttons and door handles.
While living our compulsory individual isolations, we
understood how difficult it was to live without balconies
and terraces, except for ground floors. When
buying a house from now on, it was understood that
places with gardens and small courtyards would
come to the fore in preferences. While we all desperately
want to have a home, we will look at homes with
balconies in the morning, where we can have at least
one coffee. The first function of the house over time
has been security. Initially, bad weather served as a
hiding place from predators. Then long stone castles
were built to prevent the enemy from entering. Today,
people need homes where they can effectively provide
social isolation. This means that in order to increase
the number of our rooms, rooms that do not allow m2
living should not be created. If we look at urbanization,
it has lost its popularity due to the fact that we
have moved to small villages and cities for the last 10
years, and I think it will decrease step by step after
the recent events. People will plan to live in a smaller,
calmer and safer life.
“Determination of shelter areas will be more prominent
than open planning!!”
What other habits will people have in their living
areas?
When we look at our experiences, life, natural events
that we have experienced in recent times, earthquakes,
fires, epidemic diseases never happen, it eliminates
our emotion. The desire to prepare our homes
for natural and man-made hazards is no longer
surprising. Not only will we build garages near your
home, but also our water tanks, cellars for our food
and basic food needs, areas where there may be
charges for energy for a while to manage life, perhaps
the right m2 shelters, calculated according to the
10 DECOR • March - April 2020
Konuk Tasarımcı
number of people, calculated correctly.. We will also
say goodbye to open plans that save space, one of the
main trends of recent years. Changes will be made
in the plans such as entrance, living room, kitchen
combined. After the pandemic, the entrance areas
will be separated, and areas where disinfection and
home entrance isolation will be made will be done so
that our shoes, clothes and belongings will be left in a
wide area instead of carrying them from the street to
our living areas and necessary hygiene will be provided.
Recyclable living spaces will increase.
Do you mean recycling will people produce their own
energy?
The buildings and structures of the future, as I always
defend, will be planned as independent areas that
can be recycled and provide their own water supply
and heating. Geothermal wells were already gaining
popularity in the houses we planned in smaller cities.
I think this will become more common and will be
planned as houses that are partially heated in addition
to water or that can provide their own heating.
In general, there will be several heating sources to
create a safety net in our homes; stoves, fireplaces,
solid fuel boilers, fuel generators, solar panels,
autonomous mini stations that produce alternative
power will be real. Our goal will be to be independent
from the outside world and to minimize risks in case
of complete isolation.
In this period, the concept of “Home Office” became
more widespread. What kind of changes do you think
will be in this regard?
During the quarantine period, almost every profession
is practiced or forced from home. Although every individual
does not have the desired environment, we see
that when we are compelled for reasons, the time and
acceptance used to change can be very fast. I cannot
do it in any way, I cannot concentrate, I have no area,
etc. for reasons, and it disappears with the seriousness
of facts and experiences. There will be people
who are looking forward to the end of the quarantine,
who are eager to go to their office, and ‘one of them’
is people who do not want to return to the office while
there are people. After this situation, more attention
will be paid to the existence and usability of our work
areas in our homes. In other words, the offices in the
houses will no longer have areas set up for the dining
table, living room armchairs and coffee tables. There
will now be rooms with large windows, daylight, which
can be dimmed when desired, and can be increased
from the sound that has a desk, chair, technically
internet, phone and computer. Of course, in this case,
the owners will make more efforts to reclaim office
workers. They will need to prepare the necessary,
healthy, clean and productive work areas where social
distances are maintained when necessary.
What other habits will be lost or won?
Organic farming was done in fashion in fashioned
pots on our balconies near our homes. But after these
times, more and more people will do it for need. These
are already being done as a hobby and we always
heard from our grandparents that it was good for calmness
in our minds. Now, we will feel obliged to use
their crops to feel more isolated and safe. In addition
to food production, these areas can provide additional
oxygen production
What would you like to add lastly?
After the quarantine period that started in somewhere,
the world watched from the pictures that a new
sky has formed over the world in a period of about 2
months. In other words, when there is no epidemic
when production is interrupted for only 2 months, the
people walking around with a mask can breathe fresh
air after a long time. I think the world is changing and
new discoveries and discoveries are emerging. In
short, life will be like when our families lived in time.
Consumption will be as much as needed. If we look
at the results, we will encounter healthier, natural,
happy productions and consumption. Actually, it is
the main subject that people we call the old lands are
against disease.
In this process, let’s stay in our homes, wash our hands,
eat well. Let’s understand the signals and messages
the planet gives us and reshape our lives accordingly.
We wish everyone to stay safe and healthy…

Rescheduled to
31 August – 2 September | Shanghai
In view of the latest situation
regarding the spread of the
coronavirus (COVID-19), we as
the organizers of Asia-Pacific’s
leading trade fair for carpets and
floor coverings have – after all
due consideration – decided to
reschedule the event to the end of
August/beginning of
September 2020.
The organizers of DOMOTEX asia/CHINAFLOOR
confirm that the leading flooring show in Asia Pacific
will take place from August 31 to September 2, 2020
with a total of 185,000 sqm gross space. With the new
date, the exhibition gets also a new location: the National
Exhibition and Convention Center (NECC), the
largest exhibition center in Shanghai. The postponement
of the original date (March 24-26) was necessary
to protect the health and safety of exhibitors and
visitors from the recent outbreak of the coronavirus
in China. International visitors welcome the new dates
since conveniently after the summer holidays and
perfect restart of the second half of the year. Moreover,
organizers research has shown that September
is the month with most international visits to Chinese
suppliers.
As always,
Shanghai
will continue
to
host the
exhibition,
but the
postponement
of the
event has
necessitated a move to the National Exhibition and
Convention Center (NECC). The NECC is the largest
exhibition complex in Shanghai, located in the immediate
vicinity of Shanghai-Hongqiao International
Airport and the Hongqiao transportation hub, with
excellent connections to metro, high-speed trains,
and buses, guaranteeing very good accessibility for
visitors.
DOMOTEX asia/CHINAFLOOR has seen a great success
over its 21 year history. The upcoming edition
will continue providing the international audience with
the unique events and showcases, such as Treasures
of the Orient - a new area featuring handmade carpet
and rug exhibitors from India, Afghanistan, Nepal and
other regions, and Southeast Asian Business Hub - an
exclusive area with SPC and wood flooring exhibitors
whose production is located in Southeast Asia. DOMO-
TEX asia/CHINAFLOOR will also present a complete
array of high end design rugs from China and abroad.
Cadex conferences will complete the design area,
featuring one more time important KOLs as speakers
in their design forums and conferences. Last but
not least, the global market overview, including the
opportunities and obstacles in the international wood
and resilient flooring market will be presented at the

we faced some global challenges around this second

conduct market research and will survey our target
audiences to reshape and improve the show for 2021,”
he added.

Alan Beaulieu, international economic analyst and

can expect in 2020 and beyond. He also advised the
audience to think enthusiastically about future plans
for prosperity in anticipation of the projected upswing
in the economy.
Prior to the show opening on Thursday, Feb.6, brand
leadership expert, Denise Lee Yohn, gave a rousing
keynote free to all attendees about how floor covering
experts can develop a brand experience that really
connects with their customers. “I wanted the audience
to understand how to run their businesses differently
to attract more profitable and more loyal customers.
My goal was to help each professional embrace a
more targeted and focused approach to developing a
great brand and customer experience,” said Yohn.
Immediately following Yohn’s presentation, Kemp
Harr, publisher and owner of Floor Focus magazine,
moderated the show’s popular state-of-the-industry
panel on the DOMOTEX USA Plaza stage located at
the center of the show floor. Distinguished industry
experts Piet Dossche, president of USFloors, Neil

Zwicker, floor covering distributor consultant, offered
an optimistic outlook for floor covering product sales
in 2020. On the final day of the show, featured speaker
James Dion, founder and president of Dionco Inc.,
shared his expertise on consumer trends, retail technology,
selling and service, retail merchandising and
operations, as well as best practices for sustainable
retail and store management.

Saf Atmosferler segmentinde Salon 11’in kavramsal

imm cologne
2020: The
industry kicks
off the new
year with a
dynamic start
Cologne has once again
demonstrated its significance
as a platform for contacts
and inspiration but also as an
ordering fair.
Hosted right at the start of the year, imm cologne is
the most important date on the interior design calendar.
It’s where the entire interiors industry gathers
to present and discover new launches from around
the world, to experience the major future trends and
make a successful start to the new season.
The legendary show of the interiors industry drew to
a close on Sunday, 19 January 2020, with positive overall
results. More than 128,000 visitors attended the
event to attain inspiration from the industry. Contrary
to the decreasing trend for other industry trade fairs,
imm cologne achieved an increase in visitors compared
to the most recent similar edition of the event.
As in previous years, imm cologne also had a very
strong international profile. Of the 82,000 trade
visitors (2018: 80,704) around 50 per cent came from
outside Germany.
Despite the concentration visible in the German
wholesale and retail trade, the event recorded a small
rise in domestic trade visitors, again bucking the
trend in recent years. “With these results, imm cologne
not only underscores its prominent position in the
global business; the increase in planners, architects
and contract furnishers from Germany further emphasizes
its importance for the German market,” said
Gerald Böse, President and Chief Executive Officer of
Koelnmesse. “imm cologne presented the relevant issues
emotionally this year and gave a whole industry
new, creative impetus. With its international attractiveness,
it was a dynamic event that made for a highly
promising start to the new year,” said Böse, who
is delighted with imm cologne’s performance. The
Managing Director of the Association of the German
Furniture Industry, Jan Kurth, also gave the event
a highly positive verdict: “For the exhibitors, imm
cologne was a commercially successful trade fair that
allowed the industry to make an excellent start to the
2020 furniture year. Cologne has once again demonstrated
its significance as a platform for contacts and
inspiration but also as an ordering fair. Together with
34
DECOR • March - April 2020
all those involved, we will continue to strengthen the
importance of this key event in a transforming market
environment.”
The success of imm cologne 2020 reflects the further
development of its content and concept, a necessary
step that the interior business event initiated this year.
For the first time, the trade fair focused on two interior
worlds: Pure comprehensively presented the world of
on-trend design brands, while its counterpart, Home,
showcased furnishing solutions with a lifestyle feel for
modern dwellings. At the end of the trade fair, all those
involved agreed that the new division had made the
event clearer and easier for visitors to navigate. With
the significant expansion of Let’s be smart – Smart Village,
the trade fair also placed much greater emphasis
on smart living and provided the industry with a highly
attractive platform for cross-sector matchmaking.
Exhibitors and visitors welcomed the new structure in
Hall 10 and the value-added content generated by the
special Future Interiors event area, which focused on
German furniture trends and the crucial issue of sustainability.
The conceptual further enhancement of Hall 11
in the Pure Atmospheres segment was also seen as an
important step in imm cologne’s development. “Together
with our market partners from the industry and the specialist
trade, we will continue to systematically expand
imm cologne into a global marketplace for the international
furniture and interior design industry. This calls for
the courage and the determination to break new ground,”
said Oliver Frese, the new Chief Operating Officer of Koelnmesse,
in his summary of the event’s future direction.
Alongside the trade fair’s conceptual further development,
imm cologne was considerably more emotional
with trend areas such as “Das Haus”, Future Interiors and
Pure Atmospheres. With special event areas like these,
the 2020 interior business event provided both a space for
interior moments and inspiration for commercial success.
This year’s mix of new business, emotion, international
reach and future issues are a highly promising
signal for imm cologne’s further development.

Miktardan önce kalite;
Heimtextil 2020
50. yılını kutlayan Heimtextil gelecek dönemin trendlerini belirledi
İçerik odaklı bir programla, Heimtextil’in 50. edisyonu,
yeni bir mobilya sezonunun başlaması için güçlü
bir itici güç sağladı. Bu son Heimtextil etkinliğinde
sürdürülebilirlik, diğer konuları gölgede bırakarak
gündemin zirvesine yerleşti. Dünyanın önde gelen ev
ve sözleşmeli tekstil fuarına katılan 63.000 ziyaretçi,
uluslararası sektöre hâkim 2.952 katılımcı firmadan
sektörün ana konuları hakkında bilgiler edindi. Beklendiği
gibi, her zamankinden erken bir tarihe alınması,
fuardaki ziyaretçi sayısında düşüşe sebep oldu.
Sektör şu anda büyük zorluklarla karşı karşıya.
Heimtextil’e katılanlar bunu gözlemlediler. Ancak
katılımcıların etkinlikten duydukları memnuniyette
geçen yıla nazaran bir değişme olmadığı ifade edildi.
Ziyaretçi memnuniyetinin yüzde 93’ten 95’e bile
yükseldiği, ziyaretçi sayısının azalmasında mağazalar
arasındaki birleşmelerin ve e-ticarete yönelişlerin
etkili olduğu görüşü öne çıktı. Messe Frankfurt
sahipler. ”
Bir sonraki Heimtextil 12-15 Ocak 2021 tarihleri
arasında gerçekleşecek.

Quality over quantity: golden anniversary
edition of Heimtextil sets the themes for
the new decoration trends
With a content-driven program, the 50th edition of
Heimtextil delivered strong impetus for the start of
the new furnishing season. Sustainability was placed
firmly at top of the agenda, outshining all other topics.
63,000 visitors gathered information about the major
themes dominating the international industry from
2,952 exhibitors at the world’s leading trade fair for
home and contract textiles. As expected, the unusually
early date led to a drop in visitor numbers.
‘The industry is currently facing huge challenges. And
some of those taking part at Heimtextil have really felt
this. However: exhibitor satisfaction has remained at
the same high levels as last year. And visitor satisfaction
has even increased from 93 to 95 per cent.
In addition to the early date, the reasons behind the
reduced visitor numbers are mainly down to strong
consolidation of specialist shops and developments in
the stationary retail trade in the direction of e-commerce.
The trend has also experienced an economic
slowdown’, explains Detlef Braun, CEO of Messe
Frankfurt. ‘This is in line with the fact that as many as
34 per cent of our exhibitors rate the current economic
situation in the sector as poor, compared with just
18 per cent the year before’.
Industry-focused content in line with the times
The anniversary edition of Heimtextil offered the
richest event program in its history: over 150 lectures
and panel discussions, 30 guided tours of the trade
fair and numerous other program events supplied
inspiration in relation to the most exciting new products
and encouraged exchanges between representatives
of industry and trade, design, interior architecture
and hospitality. Above all, the highly frequented
‘Trend Space’ with its unique trend showcase provided
important industry content that was absolutely
in line with the times. ‘Inquisitive traders who make
a difference in the market and keep up with the times
38 DECOR • March - April 2020
are gathering inspiration for the new season here in
Frankfurt. As the world’s biggest trade fair, Heimtextil
is of existential importance for our industry. No
other trade fair offers such a wealth of information’,
says Ottmar Ihling, spokesman for the DecoTeam and
draws a positive conclusion for the Association of
German Home Textile Suppliers in hall 8.0.
‘We had a great number of visitors to the DecoTeam
with good and high-quality customers and delegations
from large companies.’ Peter Gumbel, General Manager
of Aro Artlaender, also draws a positive conclusion
about their presence in hall 11.0 and illustrates
how the visitor structure at Heimtextil has changed to
incorporate more international buyers: ‘All the customers
we expected to be there were there. Although
the German specialist trade was somewhat lacking,
as far as exports are concerned, it was a very good
fair. Compared to 15 years ago, buyer delegations
have certainly become a little smaller, but the decision-makers
are still at Heimtextil – they may spend
a little less time here, but they have very concrete
plans.’
All roads lead to sustainability
For the first time, the United Nations Office for
Partnerships presented the worldwide ‘Sustainable
Development Goals’ at Heimtextil and invited industry
participants to take part in an intensive dialogue.
‘Heimtextil was the next step on our tour to present
the Sustainable Development Goals in collaboration
with Messe Frankfurt´s Texpertise Network and the
Conscious Fashion Campaign. The United Nations
Office for Partnerships welcomes and appreciates
the innovative work of the exhibitors and the variety
of sustainable textiles presented in Frankfurt. The
feedback on our booth and talks was extraordinary.
Together with Messe Frankfurt and the Conscious
Fashion Campaign, UNOP welcomes the opportunity
to reach a broad and professional audiences, raise
awareness of the goals and galvanize support”, says
Lucie Brigham, Chief of Office at UNOP and guest of
honor at the Heimtextil opening press conference.

An even greater reception was enjoyed by the ‘Sleep!
The Future Forum’, with which Heimtextil provided
concentrated know-how on all aspects of sleeping and
exciting product innovations in the fields of sleeping
systems, bedding and bed linen. Here, too, experts
dealt with the question of the challenges manufacturers
face if they want to operate and produce sustainably.
The panel discussion ‘Securing the future of the
next generations – sustainable strategies for manufacturers
and retailers’ was one of the highlights of the
four-day program. It presented practical examples
from Lenzing, Vossen and IKEA and introduced the
new state-run ‘Grüner Knopf’ textile seal and the
global Sustainable Development Goals of the United
Nations to the interested trade audience.
The next Heimtextil will take place from
12-15 January 2021.

Many trade
shows have
been hit hard
by coronavirus
From carpets to furniture, from
beauty to jeans, some of the
world’s biggest trade shows were
either cancelled or rescheduled
due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The coronavirus outbreak has caused the cancellation
or postponement of more than 24 exhibitions and
conferences worldwide, hammering the $2.5 trillion
trade show industry. The cancellation of trade events is
having damaging ripple effects across the hotel, airline,
entertainment, marketing, restaurant and other
industries. More and more organizers are pulling events
over fears of spreading the potentially deadly disease,
with many thousands of attendees having to alter travel
plans. Some events were cancelled with the policies of
their States some others were done because of the fear
of lack of attendees.
From the event list of Istanbul Magazine Group, we were
notified the cancellation or rescheduling of major fairs
such as CIFF, Interzum Guangzhou, and Domotex Asia
China Floor fairs from China; InterCharm from Bologna,
Italy; China Homelife in Turkey, etc. Domotex Asia has
been postponed to 31 August – 2 September 2020; Cosmoprof
Worldwide Bologna to 11-14 June 2020 with the
good hope that the virus problem will be over. We hear
many rumors about the cancellation or rescheduling
possibilities of many other shows. These rumors will be
certain as time goes by.
The fashion industry has also been affected by coronavi-

rus as the Kingpins denim trade fair in Hong Kong has
been called off.
The event’s organizers said the show, scheduled for
mid-May, would not go ahead because: “We are very
concerned about the situation in China and understand
that many of our exhibitors and attendees are
dealing with extreme difficulties and uncertainty due
to efforts to contain the spread of the virus.”
The coronavirus outbreak isn’t scaring off all event
planners, however. Singapore Airshow, which takes
place every two years, attracts hundreds of global aerospace
firms as they exhibit their latest products and
hope to strike multi-million-dollar deals. The fair was
held on its regular dates, 15-20 February 2020. Still,
the number of exhibitors pulling out of the show has
topped 70, including some of the biggest names in the
aerospace industry, including US giant Lockheed Martin
and Canada’s Bombardier. “I’ve never seen it so
quiet,” said Jon Grevatt, Asia-Pacific defense industry
analyst for military guide Jane’s. But the Food&HotelAsia-Hotel
Restaurant and Cafe expo, referred to
as FHA-HoReCa, in Singapore has been moved from
March to July. The event was postponed because of
the outbreak.
China, in particular, is an important hub for trade
events, and the exhibition industry is an “economic
engine” for the country. With more than 76 thousand
cases of the virus and over 2,300 deaths, however,
event organizers say postponing or canceling conferences
is absolutely necessary. Some convention
centers have even been converted into temporary
hospitals.
Rescheduling events can pose serious financial issues
for organizers. They may not be able to book the same
venue for their preferred date and can lose money
they’ve spent on the event space and other services
like catering and conference management. Exhibitors
and attendees also face challenges when events are
canceled or when they choose not to attend, such as
losing stand deposits or cancelling the travel arrangements.

En Yeni Trendler ve
Sürdürülebilirlik Temaları
DOMOTEX Hannover’de Buluştu!
50 DECOR • March - April 2020
duvara halı, esnek zemin, iplik, paspas, makina
Hol’de el halısı sektöründe Türk pavilyonunu düzenledi;
hem de makina halısı salonlarında firmalarını

Deutsche Messe Yönetim Kurulu Üyesi Dr. Andreas
Gruchow, “DOMOTEX, bugüne kadar gerçekleştirdiğimiz
en uluslararası fuarımız ve böyle olmaya da
devam ediyor. DOMOTEX Hannover’in, yüksek oranda
katılımcıların ilgisini çekmesinden büyük bir memnuniyet
duyuyoruz. Fuar süresince %60’ı Avrupa’dan,
%25’i Asya’dan, %10’u da Amerika’dan olmak üzere
Afrika ve Avustralya bölgelerinden de oldukça fazla
ziyaretçimiz katılım sağladı” ifadelerini kullandı.
DOMOTEX Uluslararası Direktörü Sonia Wedell-Castellano’nun
“DOMOTEX 2020’de karşılaştığımız
olumlu tepkiler ve genel fuar atmosferinden dolayı
çok mutluyuz. Ziyaretçi rakamları, artan pazar yoğunluğuna
yönelik devam eden bir eğilimi yansıtıyor.

Sektör profesyonellerinin yüzdesindeki artış, 2020
için ticari büyüme noktasında oldukça önemli bir
faktörü oluşturuyor. Gelen ziyaretçilerin yaklaşık
%90’ı, şirketlerinde karar verme yetkisine sahip
ve bunların yarısı üst yönetim düzeyinde” ifadeleri
dikkat çekti.
Ana tema “ATMYSPHERE”
Fuarın bu seneki ana teması olan “ATMYSPHERE”,
ürünlerin doğallık ve sürdürülebilirlik temalarını
teşvik eden yönlerini vurguladı. Sonia Wedell-Castellano
“Ana tema zamanın ruhunu mükemmel bir
şekilde yansıtıyordu ve bunun önemi tüm salonlarda
açıkça hissediliyordu. DOMOTEX 2021’de
sürdürülebilirliği daha da avantajlı hale getirmenin
yollarını araştırmakla zaten meşgulüz” dedi.
Bir sonraki DOMOTEX 15 – 18 Ocak 2021 tarihlerinde
yine Hannover, Almanya’da gerçekleşecek.

Trends from
DOMOTEX 2020
Hardly any other subject is
as deeply engrained in our
consciousness as “health”. It
affects all areas of life – as was
also reflected at DOMOTEX 2020,
the world’s leading trade fair for
carpets and floor coverings.
From January 10 to 13, 2020, DOMOTEX served as a
popular meeting place for exhibitors and attendees
from across the globe. They convened at the world’s
leading tradeshow for carpets and floor coverings to
network and share information on the latest products
and industry trends. The current keynote theme
of “ATMYSPHERE” was a nod to the new “healthy
living” megatrend, focusing on flooring properties like
acoustics, naturalness and sustainability, all of which
contribute to a sense of well-being, not to mention a
healthy interior atmosphere.
At the same time, the term “ATMYSPHERE” describes
the experience of a specific, individual environment
which allows floor designs to unfold. This keynote theme
was divided into the areas of Sustainable Flooring,
Well-being, Green Living, Floor & More, Outdoor and
Acoustics.Featuring imaginative stagings, presentations
of innovative products and an inspiring supporting
program, the Framing Trends special display in Hall
8 was the creative and communicative heart of the
trade fair. Visitors with a particular focus on lifestyle
issues found a wide range of networking opportunities
and ideas there.
54 DECOR • March - April 2020
Unique stagings of “ATMYSPHERE” at Framing Trends
Developed by the Munich-based Schmidhuber agency,
the “Contract Frames” area played a central role at
the Framing Trends special display. This new-look
event consisted of four pavilions, each of them serving
as a source of inspiration for the lead theme, which
was showcased in practical, applications-oriented
settings. Acoustically Effective Solutions, involving
materials and furniture, were integrated in all areas.
The Sustainable Flooring frame demonstrated the
sustainable use of materials, with a floor made of the
rapidly renewable raw material cork, plus textiles
from ecologically oriented production and durable
solid wood furniture. The Well-being room emphasized
health-promoting and environmentally friendly
aspects intended to create a balance between body
and soul, including a natural wooden floor. Floor &
More demonstrated the versatility of flooring materials
by expanding a Balta Group carpet into an upholstered,
three-dimensional seating arrangement. The
Green Living frame featured environmentally friendly
floor coverings (resilient flooring from Windmöller,
carpet from Tisca), rich green tones, plant and floral
elements, as well as wall decorations. A central open
space connected the four rooms and illustrated the
benefits of typical Outdoor Floors, with a flowing transition
from indoors to outdoors. The wooden outdoor
floor was provided by Denderwood, while the artificial
turf came from Lano Carpets.
Organic designs, geometry and fair trade
DOMOTEX 2020 featured numerous carpets with
floral and plant patterns, including Rica Basagoiti,
Tissage, Tisca, Rug Star and the Floral collection
from “The Four Seasons” exhibition by Lila Valadan.
Creative Matters displayed its “Balthazar” innovation
from the Halcyon collection made of Tibetan sheep
wool combined with Chinese silk, with a motif graduated
in eight shades of gray which reminded the viewer
of gently curved stalks.
Another trend in handmade carpets consists of
geometric patterns (Galleria Battilossi, Jaipur Rugs),
several of which were inspired by motifs from the
Bauhaus workshops, such as the “Ghashgha’i meets
Bauhaus” collection by Zollanvari, which combines
the traditional Ghashgha’i style with the formal lan-

guage of Bauhaus master Josef Albers. The carpets
are made of hand-combed and spun wool, dyed with
natural plant dyes.
In addition to these qualities, committed manufacturers
like Jaipur Rugs, Creative Matters, Paulig and
Theo Keller ensure a clear conscience when buying
carpets, because these manufacturers are socially
committed to fair trade and the elimination of child
labor.
Natural and sustainable wall and floor coverings
Cork is one of the rapidly renewable raw materials
with positive properties that are used to design
coverings for walls and floors. Cork has an insulating
effect, reducing sound transmission and temperature
variations, while at the same time improving the
interior climate.
Outdoor flooring as an enhancement to the quality of life
The trend towards growing health awareness is accompanied
by increasing demands on the appearance,
quality and texture of floor coverings in the outdoor
segment. Outdoor carpets are also playing an increasing
role with various series of different motifs.
The next year’s DOMOTEX will run in Hannover from
15 to 18 January 2021.

Hindistan’da ev ürünlerine olan müşteri talepleri

doğal çiçekler, oda kokuları, dekoratif mumlar, el sanatları,
dekoratif aksesuarlar, aydınlatmaları kapsayan

bu kategoride yılda %30-35’lik bir büyüme görülüyor.
Türkiye, Belçika, İran, Mısır ve Çin gibi ülkelerden katılan
Obsession, Divine, Qaaleen, Karpets by RKS’yı da

Mobilya sektöründe ortaya çıkan bu eğilimleri ele alan

Coming to HGH India is a very good experience. Here, we
get an understanding of the Indian market, and this is important
to me. We supply not only to the Indians consumer
via our value chain partners, but also to the international
market via Indian producers which are exporting to the
US, Europe, and other countries.

It’s been a fantastic show. I have seen it expand three
times in size over the last 2 years. We have seen many
of our customers and a wide mixed of potential customers-
distributors and retailers from across the country.
We don’t get a nice opportunity like this to showcase our
brand to the buyers. So it is fantastic for Stahl- a premium
show for a premium product!

that it’s not true. Indian market has a huge potential and
we can work with Indian company both traditional market
and modern markets. We came here with 15 Turkish
companies with different industry and we have until now
we have very good feedback and I think next year we will
