2 SUMMARY
2.1Introduction
ThePlanforEcoandRuralTourismDevelopmentfortheNorthWestpartoftheZadar
county,theislandofPag,areasalongtheNovigradandKarinSeaispartoftheCOAST
project,whosegoalistohelpCroatiatotakethisuniqueopportunitytopreservetheglobally
significantbiologicalandlandscapediversityinthecoastalareaofDalmatia,inwhichfour
(4)projectdemoareaswereselected:
Pelješac,MalostonskibayandislandofMljet;
Visandremoteislands;
WiderareaoftheriverKrkaestuary;
NorthWestpartoftheZadarcounty,theislandofPag,areasalongtheNovigrad
andKarinSea;

Theaimoftheprojectistosystematicallyandcontinuouslyinfluenceeconomicactivitiesand
practicesintourism,agriculture,fisheriesandmariculture,aswellaswithinthebanking
sectorwiththegoalofpromotingsustainabledevelopment. Theplanneddurationofthe
projectis5years.
In accordance with the objectives stated above, the Plan for Eco and Rural Tourism
DevelopmentfortheNorthWestpartoftheZadarcounty,theislandofPag,areasalongthe
NovigradandKarinSearepresentsthebasisforthedevelopmentofecoandruraltourismin
this area with an emphasis on the tourist valorization of natural heritage and related
activities.
