Currently,thereisnostandardforecotourismin<strong>Croatia</strong> that would enable business<br />

competitivenessintheglobalanddomesticmarket.Ifweconsiderthat<strong>Croatia</strong>necoandrural<br />

tourismisinitsinitialphaseofdevelopment,whencreatingthestandardonemustkeepin<br />

mindthattheconditionsforentrepreneursshouldnotbetoorigidorsincethiscouldresultina<br />

lownumberofbusinessentitiesthatwouldbeabletooperateinthismanner.<br />

Therefore,thestandardshouldbeadaptedtothemarketconditionsand,withtime,itcould<br />

eventuallybeupgradedandbecomemorestrict.<br />

Inaccordancewithalloftheabove,theproposedstandardforecotourismin<strong>Croatia</strong>should<br />

containcertificateandecolabelelements.<br />

Elementsofthestandardthathavethecharacteristicsofthecertificatesarerelatedtomeeting<br />

Theelementsof the standardthathavethecharacteristicsofecolabels are related to<br />

rewardingandrecognizingthoseentitiesthatprovidetheexamplesofbestpractice.<br />

Besidestheecostandard,oneofthepreconditionsforthedevelopmentofecoandruraltourism<br />

iswelldefinedmarketing.Giventhattheecoandruraltourismisstillinitsinitialdevelopment<br />

phase,itisprimarilynecessarytoinformandeducatethepublicabouttheopportunitiesand<br />

benefitsthatecotourismbrings.<br />

The first step began with the COAST project and the <strong>Plan</strong> for Eco and Rural Tourism<br />

Developmentwhichinitiatedthefollowingactivities:<br />
