Language skills<br />

Skills in foreign language curricula in a comparative didactic perspective<br />

This contribution gives an introduction to foreign language skills in curricula in<br />

Danish schools and discusses some aspects that could be of relevance to comparative<br />

disciplinary didactics. Point of departure is a general outline of function and<br />

purpose of teaching foreign language skills in European societies characterized<br />

by developing multilingualism. The curricula of English, German and French are<br />

studied in some detail, focusing on skill concepts and learning theories, compared<br />

with learners´ priorities and theories, resulting from an empirical study (Andersen<br />

& Blach). Discrepancies concerning the role of oral communication and the role<br />
