“back then we were particularly impressed with the silky
haptic properties and the beautiful radiance of the fabrics
produced with the TEnCEL ® fiber. our challenge was to develop
a down-proof fabric from this fiber, which could be as
densely woven, soft and smooth as possible,” Dietmar Hefel
says, reflecting upon the decision-making criteria in favor of
TEnCEL ® . A lot of inventive tinkering and commitment in the
development process were necessary to actually achieve the
required down density. Compared to cotton, it is a known fact
that TEnCEL ® fibers boast an extremely smooth fiber surface,
which does not necessarily make processing child’s play.
How did the company still manage this feat? This will remain a
well-kept secret of HEFEL Textil.
ridiculed product innovation
in January 1998, HEFEL Textil subsequently presented this
new fabric at the “Heimtextil” trade fair in Frankfurt, creating
quite a stir in the industry. At that time, many industry insiders
seemed to consider the idea of producing a downproof fabric
with another fiber instead of cotton to be a strange novelty,
which accordingly aroused considerable skepticism. With a

Viel Tüftlerei und Engagement in der Entwicklung waren
nötig, um tatsächlich die notwendige Daunendichtheit zu erreichen.
Denn TEnCEL ® Fasern besitzen bekanntlich im Vergleich
zu Baumwolle eine extrem glatte Faseroberfläche, die diese
Angelegenheit nicht unbedingt zum Kinderspiel macht. Wie es
trotzdem gelungen ist? Das ist und bleibt ein gut gehütetes Geheimnis
von HEFEL Textil.
Belächelte Produktneuheit
im Januar 1998 präsentierte HEFEL Textil in der Folge auf der
Frankfurter „Heimtextil“ dieses neue Gewebe und sorgte für
einiges Aufsehen in der Branche. Mit einer anderen Faser als
mit Baumwolle ein daunendichtes Gewebe herzustellen, das
schien vielen Branchen-insidern damals eine eher kuriose neuheit
zu sein und rief dementsprechend reichlich skepsis hervor.
