Austrian agricultural and forestry technology is among the
fi nest in the world across the full spectrum of applications.
In addition, some Austrian producers are global leaders in
their fi eld.
Austria successfully exports agricultural and forestry technologies
not only to Europe but also to China, Japan and
the USA, where Austrian products are prized for their high
quality. Some countries, such as Slovakia, Slovenia, the
Czech Republic, Hungary, Russia and Ukraine rely on Austrian
producers to supply them with the latest technologies
to help modernise their agricultural and forestry industries
which are so vital to their economies.
In recent years, the strongest destination markets for Austrian
forestry technology have included Central and South
Asia, Eastern Europe, Russia and the Middle East. Austrian
producers utilise the traditionally strong central European
forestry technology cluster by supplying and working in
partnership with producers in Germany, Northern Italy and
the Czech Republic. Modern agriculture and forestry is characterised
by innovation, and this has allowed these industries
to respond swiftly to structural change. So manufacturers
have been quick to integrate the latest information
technology into their products. As a result, some of Austria’s
best-performing exports in the agricultural and forestry sector
feature sophisticated technology. This includes sowing,
harvesting and fertilising machinery, stall systems, biogas
plants, silos, animal feed handling systems, weather stations,
agricultural chemistry, timber extraction equipment
and forestry harvesting machines. These products are just a
few examples which demonstrate that Austrian agricultural
and forestry industry products have a reputation for quality
and innovative technology, just as in several other industries.
Among the many examples of reliable technology
from Austria are the modern tractors which are equipped
with on-board satellite navigation and mapping systems to
guarantee precision seeding.
The Austrian agricultural technology industry was valued
at €1.74bn in 2008, and exports accounted for around
€1.4bn of this (+53.7 per cent). The export market for agricultural
and forestry equipment was valued at €598m (in
the fi rst half of 2009). Specialist organisations and professional
groups within the Association of the Austrian Machinery
and Metalware Industries (FMMI) help to keep Austrian
businesses at the heart of the international forestry and agriculture
network. The FMMI is a member of EUMABOIS,
the European Federation of Woodworking Machinery Manufacturers
and CEMA, the Association for European Agricultural
Machinery, which helps ensure that increasing
numbers of customers around the world have access to
high-quality Austrian technology from this sector as well. ❚

Österreichs Agrar- und Forsttechnik zählt in vielen Bereichen
zur absoluten Spitze. In manchen Segmenten sind
österreichische Produzenten sogar Weltmarktführer. Die Export-Erfolge
der Branche reichen weit über Europa hinaus,
auch Partner in China, Japan und in den USA sind von österreichischer
Qualität überzeugt. Manche Länder wie die
Slowakei, Slowenien, Tschechien und Ungarn, aber auch
Russland oder die Ukraine vertrauen auf österreichische Produzenten,
um ihren Nachholbedarf an moderner Agrar- und
Forsttechnik zu decken, da Land- und Forstwirtschaft für sie
ein wesentlicher Wirtschaftszweig ist.
Zentral- und Südasien waren in den letzten Jahren die
dynamischen Exportmärkte für Forsttechnik, ebenso Osteuropa,
Russland, die Türkei sowie der Nahe und der Mittlere
Osten. Österreichs Erzeuger nutzen den traditionell starken
mitteleuropäischen Forsttechnik-Cluster durch Zusammenarbeit
und Zulieferungen mit Erzeugern in Deutschland,
Norditalien und der Tschechischen Republik. Innovation
prägt den modernen Agrar- und Forsttechniksektor, sie
garantiert eine ideale Anpassung an strukturelle Veränderungen.
So ist etwa der Einsatz modernster Informationstechnik
in dieser Branche selbstverständlich, auch die
öster reichischen „Exportschlager“ im Agrar- und Forsttechnikbereich
sind Hightech: Saat-, Ernte- und Düngemaschinen,
Stalleinrichtungen, Biogasanlagen, Silier- und
Fütterungstechnik, Wettersta tionen, Agrarchemie, Holz bringungstechnik,
Forst-Harvester und viele weitere Produkte
zeigen, dass Qualitätsbewusstsein und innovative Technologie
auch in diesem Bereich ein österreichisches Gütesiegel
sind. Eines von vielen Beispielen für zuverlässige Technik
aus Österreich: In modernen Traktoren dienen satellitengesteuerte
Navigations- und Kartierungs systeme der zielgerichteten
Ausbringung der Sämengen.
2008 betrug der Umsatz im Bereich Agrartechnik 1,74
Milliarden Euro, Exporte machten davon etwa 1,4 Milliarden
Euro (+53,7 %) aus. Im Export von land- und forstwirtschaftlichen
Maschinen konnten sogar 598 Millionen Euro
(1. Halbjahr 2009) umgesetzt werden. Eigene Fachverbände
und Berufs gruppenvertretungen in der Maschinen- und Metallwaren-
Industrie (FMMI) sorgen dafür, dass österreichische
Unternehmer weiterhin ein wichtiger Knotenpunkt
im inter nationalen Netzwerk der Agrar- und Forsttechnik
bleiben. Der FMMI sorgt als Mitglied des europäischen Verbandes
für Holzbearbeitungsmaschinen EUMABOIS und des
europäischen Landmaschinenverbandes CEMA dafür, dass
öster reichische Qualität auch in diesem Bereich weltweit
der wachsenden Zahl an Abnehmern zur Verfügung steht. ❚
