Prison officer shot dead in ambush<br />

(belfasttelegraph) A long-serving prison officer has been gunned down by<br />
dissident republicans in a motorway ambush in Northern Ireland.<br />
Married father-of-two David Black, 52, was shot several times from a car<br />
that pulled up alongside his on the M1 near Lurgan, Co Armagh as he drove<br />
to work at Maghaberry jail this morning.<br />
Colleagues have said Mr Black, from Cookstown, Co Tyrone, had been actively<br />
considering retirement after more than 30 years' service.<br />

Clinton condemns prison officer killing<br />

(bbc) The murder of prison officer David Black was an outrageous and<br />
cowardly act, United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has said.<br />
The 52-year-old was shot on the M1 on Thursday morning as he drove to work<br />
at Maghaberry jail.<br />
Mrs Clinton said the United States was resolute in its support for Northern<br />
Ireland's embrace of peace and reconciliation.<br />

Motorway murder: NI prison officer assassinated in dissident ambush<br />

(belfasttelegraph) A prison officer has been killed by dissident<br />
republicans in an attack on the M1 motorway between Lurgan and Portadown,<br />
County Armagh, police have said.<br />
One unconfirmed report claimed a gunman opened up when another car pulled<br />
up alongside.<br />
It is understood the officer's car careered off the road when he was fired<br />
on and he died later.<br />
