Guatemala indigenous leader 'escapes street attack'

(bbc) An indigenous leader in Guatemala who is an outspoken critic of the
government says he has escaped an attempted shooting.
Mario Itzep of the National Indigenous Observatory said two men on a
motorbike opened fire on him in Guatemala City.
He said he had recently received anonymous telephone calls telling him that
unless he stopped bothering the government he would regret it.

Colombia Urabenos 'gang leader' captured in Argentina

(bbc) One of Colombia's most wanted drug dealers, Henry de Jesus Lopez, has
been arrested in Argentina.
Lopez, known as Mi Sangre or My Blood, was detained while eating in a
Buenos Aires restaurant, police said.
He is alleged to be the leader of the Urabenos gang, which controls much of
the drug trade in northern Colombia.

U.S. cities: hubs for Mexican drug cartels’ distribution network

spill onto 26th Street. The Mexican tricolor waves from brick storefronts.
Vendors offer authentic churros, chorizo and tamales.
Chicago’s Little Village neighbourhood is home to more than 500,000
residents of Mexican descent and is known for its Cinco de Mayo festival
and bustling Mexican Independence Day parade. But federal authorities say
that Little Village is also home to something else: an American branch of
the Mexican Sinaloa drug cartel.
