Disabled access
Heidelberg Castle is under strict historic and building protection laws and thus
unfortunately cannot entirely meet modern convenience standards for physically
disabled visitors. Obstruction-free access and wheelchair spaces can therefore
only be provided for some productions in certain venues. The use of wheelchairs
is not permitted in the Thick Tower, The Great Terrace and English Building due to
Health & Safety regulations. A limited number of wheelchair spaces are available
in the Castle Courtyard, King‘s Hall and Court Chapel and must be booked in

Children under 10 years old
Since 2003, the Heidelberg Castle Festival has presented annual performances by
the zwinger3 Children’s Theater expressly for children and families (recommended
for everyone from the age of 6). However, the festival’s other theater productions
are intended for adult audiences. Therefore, children under the age of 4
cannot be admitted to evening performances. Additionally, we cannot guarantee
that evening performances will be suited for children under the age of 10.
Late admittance
Late admittance to the Thick Tower, English Building, King‘s Hall and Court Chapel
is not possible. No refunds will be given for late arrival. At all other castle
venues, the moment for late admittance will be decided at the discretion of the
management. At such time, any claims for specific seating no longer apply and
ticket holders will be seated according to the least possible disturbance of the
performance.
Arriving by public transport
The most comfortable and convenient way to the castle is the funicular railway
(Bergbahn), which takes you there in minutes from the Old Town and continues
service 30 min after the end of each production. The funicular does not operate
during performances. The base station is located at Bremeneckgasse, near
Kornmarkt Square (reached by local buses 30 and 33) just behind the City Hall
(Rathaus). The P12 car park is located in the same building.
Tickets to all performances at the Castle Festival are valid up to 4 hrs before any
given performance for use as tickets in the entire public transit system (RNV),
including the funicular railway.

can quickly be reached from the funicular base station by following the clearly
marked path known as the “Kurzer Buckel”.
Arriving by car
To reach Heidelberg by car, take the A5 Autobahn (motorway) and exit at the Heidelberg
interchange. If taking the A6, then change at the Mannheim interchange
to the A656 eastbound and follow directions to Heidelberg. At the castle and
surroundings, there is virtually no possibility to park your car. Drivers are urgently
advised to leave their vehicles in the many car parks throughout the Old Town
and to use the funicular railway as described above. A signing system leads to
the various car parks, including P12, enabling a straightforward approach and
orientation from all major roads into Heidelberg.
