Welcome Address of the president of the DGNC
Zur 64. Jahrestagung der Deutschen Gesellschaft
für Neurochirurgie darf ich Sie ganz herzlich in
Düsseldorf begrüßen. Besonders heiße ich den
Präsidenten der Chinesischen Gesellschaft für
Neurochirurgie, Herrn Professor Zhou, mit seiner
Delegation willkommen. Es ist das erste Freundschaftsmeeting
unserer beiden Gesellschaften
während einer deutschen Jahrestagung, und ich
bin sicher, dies wird unsere wissenschaftliche
Zusammenarbeit und den engen beruflichen und
freundschaftlichen Austausch in der Zukunft
stärken.
Düsseldorf ist zum dritten Mal Ausrichter unserer
Jahrestagung. Im Jahre 1971 fand hier die 22.
Jahrestagung unserer Gesellschaft unter dem
Tagungspräsidenten Professor Hans Kuhlendahl
statt. Damals waren wir 273 Mitglieder. Die Themen
der Tagung bezogen sich auf: die biomechanischen
Faktoren für Erkrankungen des Nervensystems,
Astrozytome des Großhirns und die Bedeutung der
neurochirurgischen Intensivstation.
Im Jahre 1990 war die neurochirurgische
Gesellschaft auf 631 Mitglieder angewachsen.
Unter dem Tagungspräsidenten Professor Wolfgang
Bock wurden die Themen: die neurochirurgische
Intensivstation, supratentorielle Tumoren,
intrakranielle Angiome und die Harmonisierung
der Ausbildung zum Neurochirurgen im Europa der
90iger Jahre behandelt.
Heute zählen wir mehr als 1500 Mitglieder. Die
zentralen Kongressthemen kommen aus den
Hauptgebieten unseres Faches: der Onkologie,
der vaskulären Neurochirurgie und der spinalen
Neurochirurgie. Besonders die Chirurgie der
Wirbelsäule hat sich in den letzten Jahren
dramatisch entwickelt. Wir erwarten mit Spannung
die neuesten Erkenntnisse.
Den Kongresspräsidenten Professor Hans-Jakob
Steiger und PD Dr. Jörg Herdmann sowie den
Kongresssekretären Professor Hänggi und
Professor Vesper sei herzlich für ihr großes
Engagement gedankt.
Wir freuen uns auf einen angeregten Gedankenaustausch
und viele neue berufliche und soziale
Kontakte.

I cordially welcome you to the 64 th Annual
Meeting of the German Society of Neurosurgery in
Düsseldorf. Especially, I should like to welcome the
president of the Chinese Society of Neurosurgery
Professor Zhou and the Chinese delegation. For
the first time, we have a friendship meeting of
our societies during an annual meeting of the
German Society of Neurosurgery. I am sure this will
strengthen our scientific collaborations and close
professional and social exchanges in the future.
For the third time, neurosurgeons from Düsseldorf
organize our annual meeting. In 1971,
the 22 nd meeting was organized by Professor
Hans Kuhlendahl. At that time, we counted 273
neurosurgical members. The topics of our meeting
comprised: biochemical factors of diseases of the
central nervous system, supratentorial tumors,
and the value of neurosurgical intensive care units.
In 1990, Professor Wolfgang Bock was the congress
president. The neurosurgical society had already
grown to 631 members. At that time, the congress
emphasized on the neurosurgical intensive care
units, supratentorial tumors, a.v. malformations
and the harmonization of neurosurgical education
in the European Union.
Today, we count more than 1500 members. The
central topics of this year´s congress focus on the
main areas of our specialty: the oncology, vascular
neurosurgery, and spine neurosurgery. Especially,
surgery of the spine has grown dramatically during
the last 10 years. We eagerly expect the newest
clinical and scientific findings.
We especially thank Professor Hans-Jakob Steiger
and PD Dr. Jörg Herdmann and the congress
secretaries Professor Hänggi and Vesper for their
great efforts in the organization of the congress.
We are looking forward to a mutual exchange of
thoughts, new ideas, and social contacts.
