sich das neu eingerichtete DokfestForum in der
Kunsthalle Fridericianum verorten� Hier stehen
Vorträge und Panel-Diskussionen sowie Vermittlungsangebote
zu Monitoring und den Ausstellungen
in der Kunsthalle Fridericianum auf dem
Programm�
Auf festem Fundament steht das Kasseler Dokfest
als Plattform für das hessische Film- und Medienschaffen,
welches gleichberechtigt neben internationalen
Beiträgen gezeigt wird� Das zeigt sich
in der Vielzahl von 58 hessischen Beiträgen im
Festivalprogramm und findet seine Äußerung
darüber hinaus in einer Reihe von Veranstaltungen:
Der 1� Hessische Hochschulfilmtag, wird zusammen
mit der Filmklasse der Kunsthochschule
Kassel und der hessischen Film- und Medienakademie
(hFMA) veranstaltet und bietet Studierenden
hessischer Hochschulen die Chance, ihre besten
Arbeiten vor einem Fachpublikum zu präsentieren�
Die Förderung hessischer Nachwuchsfilmemacher/innen
steht auch im Fokus der Vortragsreihe
Profis Plaudern Praxis, ebenfalls eine
Kooperation mit der hFMA� Hier wird in drei Fach-
Vorträgen Wissenswertes zur Produktion und
Verwertung von (Kurz-)Filmen vermittelt�
Einen Dialog der besonderen Art ermöglicht die
Interaktion zwischen Bewegtbild und Musik,
Raum und Besucher/innen in der DokfestLounge�
Sie bringt am Abend alles Gesehene und Gehörte
zusammen und lädt ein zum Austausch in einzigartiger
Atmosphäre�

Û In this year’s opening film by Miklós Gimes, the
journalist Tom Kummer, who became famous for his
faked Hollywood interviews, describes the (American)
media landscape as “the staging of reality and
not reality itself”. BAD BOY KUMMER tells us his story
and by doing so discusses the authenticity of media
coverage, which similar to the genre of documentary
film, alternates between staging and objective portrayal.
This year’s “eponymous hero” Gottfried Stollwerk, the
“self-sustainer”, lives and represents a quite different
reality. His personal cosmos consists of a few hectares
of land, which he farms with his own hands only. He
lives an “analog” life in the direct interaction with his
environment and therewith reflects the aspiration
“to be in dialog” with oneself, the other and the surroundings,
which the Kassel Documentary Film and
Video Festival strives for.
An essential part of the festival’s self-conception is
to lay the ground for collective cognition and awareness
of films, as well as to encourage discussions
about what we see. Therefore, we are very happy to
welcome many of the directors and artists of this
year’s program to Kassel and are looking forward to
discussing their works together with them and the
audiences.
To make all of this possible, over 100 contributors
were part in the realization of the festival. This year’s
group picture shows 25 of them, grouped into ten
“ islands” amidst a herd of cows. In their different
“functions” they perform in the festival as well as
they are allegories for the various sections and the
complexity of content and media in the program.
This is reflected by the 267 films, 14 media installations
and a program of audiovisual
performances that will be shown at the 27th
Kassel Dokfest, among which will be 120 premieres.
The works were selected from 2,671 entries along with
the challenge to arrange an interesting program rich
in variety.
The developments of media, like the impact of computer
technologies on our surrounding reality, have
shaped the Dokfest Kassel since its beginnings, not
only in its conception of content but also in its form.
The workshop conference interfiction is linked to this
complex and offers practical, as well as theoretical,
approaches concerning social issues, which again
derive from the impact of the internet and mobile
communication in our lives. This year’s conference
focuses ”with eyes and hands” on mobile gadgets as
toys and tools.
A different look at reality is offered by the 14 media
installations that will be displayed in the course of
the media art exhibition Monitoring at the Kasseler
Kunstverein and the Südflügel of the KulturBahnhof
Kassel. They observe the world from a different angle
and thereby reveal social, political and media structures
of our reality.
The first DokfestForum at the Kunsthalle Fridericianum
can be located at the intersection of film and
art. The program features lectures, panel discussions
as well as a mediative program for Monitoring and
the exhibitions at the Kunsthalle Fridericianum.
A special kind of dialog, an interaction of moving image
and music, space and visitor is offered at the DokfestLounge.
At the end of the day everything heard
and seen is brought together here and all are invited
to exchange ideas in a unique atmosphere.
