Foreword by the Chairman of the Advisory Board

Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren,
ein Blick in den Luftverkehr zeigt viele positive Indikatoren für die
Zukunft. Das Passagieraufkommen wächst unvermindert stark und
damit auch der Bedarf an neuen Flugzeugmustern. Dabei gilt es
nicht nur, die steigende Nachfrage zu decken, sondern auch die
Erneuerung existierender Flotten vorantreiben zu können.
Neue Technologien, vor allem im Antriebsbereich, versprechen
zwar erhebliche Reduktionen im Kraftstoffverbrauch und in
den Emissionen, jedoch werden langfristig trotz dieser Weiterentwicklungen
vollständig neue Ansätze notwendig, um die ambitionierten
Ziele der Luftfahrt und ihre gesellschaftliche Akzeptanz zu
erreichen. Letzteres gilt insbesondere für die Versachlichung der
Diskussion über den Flugzeuglärm im Bereich von Flughäfen.
Neue Ansätze im Bereich alternativer Kraftstoffe und Energien,
aber auch bei der Integration des Flugzeuges in den Flughafen
waren daher Schwerpunkte der Ausstellung des Bauhaus Luftfahrt
auf der Internationalen Luftfahrtausstellung (ILA) in Berlin.
Ein Schlüsselelement war das Konzept des Ce-Liners, der in einer
Konzeptstudie den Pfad für ein vollelektrisches Verkehrsflugzeug
aufzeigt. Das hohe Interesse von Politik, Industrie, Medien und
internationalen Experten zeigt, dass es dem Bauhaus Luftfahrt
erfolgreich gelingt, Möglichkeiten einer langfristigen Entwicklung
des Luftverkehrs aufzuzeigen.
Auch organisatorisch war das Jahr 2012 sehr erfolgreich für
das Bauhaus Luftfahrt. Der Freistaat Bayern hat sich durch die Gewährung
einer institutionellen Förderung ab dem Jahr 2013 für
einen langfristigen Ausbau der interdisziplinären Forschungseinrichtung
ausgesprochen.
Für diese und weitere erfolgreiche Leistungen im Jahr 2012
und die Perspektiven für die Zukunft danke ich dem Team des Bauhaus
Luftfahrt und der Leitung, Herrn Prof. Dr. Hornung und Frau
Dr. Linseisen, im Namen des Beirats und persönlich ganz herzlich.
Dear Sir or Madam,
A look at the aviation sector reveals a high number of positive indicators
for the future. Passenger numbers are constantly increasing
and thus the need for new aircraft types. Apart from covering the
increasing demand, we also need to be able to drive the renewal
of existing fleets.
New technologies, mainly in the field of propulsion systems,
promise a substantial reduction of fuel consumption and emissions
for future aircraft types. Despite those technological evolutions,
novel approaches will be required to achieve the ambitious longterm
goals of aviation and increase its acceptance by society. The
latter aspect is gaining importance especially in the objectification
of the airport noise discussion.
Novel technological approaches in the area of alternative
fuels and energies, as well as concepts of aircraft-airport integration
have been key elements of Bauhaus Luftfahrt's exhibition at
the the ILA Berlin Airshow in 2012. One key element of the presentation
was the concept of the Ce-Liner, showing a possible
pathway for a fully electric transport aircraft. The great interest
of politics, industrial representatives, media and international
experts showed that Bauhaus Luftfahrt successfully provides valid
ideas for the long-term development of aviation.
The year 2012 was also very successful for the organisation
itself. The Free State of Bavaria, through granting institutional
funding for Bauhaus Luftfahrt from 2013 onwards, has established
the basis for the long-term development of Bauhaus Luftfahrt.
On behalf of the Advisory Board I would like to thank the
team of Bauhaus Luftfahrt and the management, Professor Hornung
and Dr Linseisen, for this and numerous other outstanding
achievements in the year 2012 and for the perspectives they have
opened up for the future.
