Die Ausstellung des englischen Bildhauers <strong>Antony</strong> <strong>Gormley</strong> im<br />
Kunsthaus Bregenz wird von einem Katalogbuch begleitet, das<br />
die in Bregenz ausgestellten Werke umfassend präsentiert.<br />
Im Mittelpunkt des Schaffens <strong>Gormley</strong>s steht der menschliche<br />
Körper, mit dem der Künstler in immer neuen skulpturalen Konstellationen<br />
großer Ensembles oder in Form von Einzelfiguren Raum<br />
und Wahrnehmung hinterfragt.<br />
Für die Essays konnten als Autoren der bekannte Neurowissenschaftler<br />
Antonio Damasio, der Philosoph Marcus Steinweg<br />
und der Kunsthistoriker Yilmaz Dziewior gewonnen werden.<br />
Während Yilmaz Dziewior <strong>Gormley</strong>s Werk kunsthistorisch verortet<br />
und Antonio Damasio sein Schaffen aus der Perspektive der<br />
Bewusstseinsforschung erläutert, befasst sich Marcus Steinweg<br />
vor dem Hintergrund erkenntnisphilosophischer Theorien mit<br />
den Skulpturen.<br />
In conjunction with its exhibition of the work of the British sculptor<br />
<strong>Antony</strong> <strong>Gormley</strong> the Kunsthaus Bregenz is publishing a catalogue<br />
that presents a comprehensive look at the pieces on display. One<br />
of <strong>Gormley</strong>’s central themes is the human body, which he uses in<br />
ever new constellations of large sculptural ensembles or as individual<br />
figures to investigate and call into question issues of space and<br />
perception.<br />
The essays are written by the well-known neuroscientist<br />
Antonio Damasio, who interprets the artist’s work from the perspective<br />
of awareness research, the philosopher Marcus Steinweg,<br />
who examines the sculptures from an epistemological standpoint,<br />
and Yilmaz Dziewior, who explores <strong>Gormley</strong>’s work from an art historical<br />
point of view.<br />
